Description
(Despite some attacks by an overzealous community member the Keen Admins/Moderators have reviewed and verified the supplied proof of permission and stated this mod will not be removed unless Rider decides it should be. In any case Rider is the brainchild behind this amazing mod and I will always abide by their decision should they choose to ask for it's removal. For any of you fearing removal of an active mod, rest easy. A screen grab of the official reply can be seen here.[gyazo.com])

It's an old mod but a well done one by Rider.

Original mod can be found here. All credit goes to Rider, the creator of the original mod.

As a fan of the mod, I rarely used the thrusters due to the off-balance nature of them. The XL size thrusters have 125 times the volume/size of the small size thrusters yet only 18 times the thrust. =-/ It would be far cheaper, more weight efficient and practical to use only the Small size thrusters piled up to equal the XL size. It was always very frustrating to have to pay so dearly just for the aesthetics of the XL models which Rider did such an amazing job on.

This rebalance is not 100% accurate simply because the realistic numbers make the thruster models useless in 99% of situations. Weight has been reduced and balanced across the various thruster versions based on size/volume. Technically the thrust and weight should be somewhat higher on the 'Large' and 'Extra Large' but we get into the realm of silliness at that point. Based on the model size and volume these stats are fairly balanced in a sense of realism that makes them far more useful and a viable alternative to 'tiered' thrusters now available, without being so realistic that they are pointless on anything smaller than a 'DeathStar'.

Also, the different style/designs now have different material costs to account for the extra materials needed for the mounting corners. Material cost is balanced across the models by number of mounting corners present.

Build Big!

Incentive for larger builds:
-"Large" thrusters are 20% more efficient than "Small" thrusters! (Both block sizes)
-"Extra Large" thrusters are 40% more efficient than "Small" thrusters! (Both block sizes)

The weight/material cost on all Large blocks are roughly 1/2 the original, while Small blocks are roughly 1/4. They are now accurately scaled in thrust/power/weight/cost when compared to Large block variants. Additionally the dampening value is increased to 2 on all thrusters. New stats are below:

Helicarrier Thruster Stats:

<<Large Block>>

Small
3x3x1
Thrust: 15MN
Power: 30MW

Large
9x9x3
Thrust: 162MN
Power: 270MW

X-Large
15x15x5
Thrust: 525MN
Power: 750MW

<<Small Block>>

Small
3x3x1
Thrust: 1.5MN
Power: 3MW

Large
9x9x3
Thrust: 16.2MN
Power: 27MW

X-Large
15x15x5
Thrust: 52.5MN
Power: 75MW

As stated above, This is a rebalance of the original Mod. They are NOT atmo thrusters. They work everywhere. They just get an increased efficiency out of atmo.

@armigus if this mod use the same as the orginal mod then is usefull in both. atmo and space. i am glad this mod existet dont like to build overcount numbers of hydro trusters and like 10 or even more tanks just to geht safe to orbit moon back orbit and back earth + safe at ground wihtout hittting like a Meteor

Atmospheric thrusters should not require superconductors at all. Yes make them cost a lot of iron, nickel, and some cobalt for metal grids but not gold.

@Sawakaki:

Nothing but the above listed values and the components used for construction have changed. Everything else works as the original mod. Now they are just lighter, stronger and more energy efficient.

Do these still work in atmosphere and space like the originals? With the same 20% increase in power demand and such?

It's not as much an update as a balance. Rider's original mod was great but the balance was a bit of a mess. The large thrusters were just not worth using for anything other than looks. Now it's balanced by volume and more usable. At least I hope so.

I used the ones made by Rider, but they weren't updated since 4 years. It's nice to find an updated version.

This is the same as the original in regard to textures and models, just edited numbers for balance. If you like the original but want more balanced numbers to make the larger sizes usable, that's what this mod version does. This is DX11 as much as the original. No changes made there.
Armigus 15 Jun, 2021 @ 7:41pm
DX11 version perhaps? That's what would get me to consider moving from the original.
