Description
The mad engineer’s weekend project.

Our intrepid engineer was miffed at the lack of a 4 truck Climax one fine Friday Afternoon. He decided he was going to make one himself, but only had the weekend before someone saner than him would come over and stop him. The Engineer slept on it, and when he woke up, he remembered that there was a 4 truck Shay. If he could mash them together, he could make his dream true far quicker.

There was a problem however. The main difference between the Shay and the other 2 geared steam locomotives (Climaxs and Hieslers) is that the driveshaft is on the side of the locomotive, instead of the middle. Some sort of adapter would be needed to take the power from the middle to the to the side.

The mad engineer went to work straight away. Using a pile of random gears laying around in his workshop he made the adapter. In the dead of night he went and took a 4 truck Shay tender and wisked it to his place.

Next day he put it all together. The finishing touch was the beartrap funnel on top of the existing one. The mad engineer had been claiming he invented it, despite obvious proof otherwise.

He had finished it within the weekend. Then the coppers came. They were looking for the tender from the Shay, which Generic Co.™ had reported missing.
The mad engineer told them that he was allowed to use any Generic Co.™ Property or Possession since he was one of the top engineers, and that he simply must’ve forgotten to inform someone. He went showed off his telephone to the cops whilst informing Generic Co.™ of what happened.

Generic Co.™ were pissed. The tender he took was from a locomotive that was just about to be sent off to Colorado. Since he refused to undo his work, they to make an entire new tender, which delayed the locomotive’s delivery.

After much arguing, no one really bothered to think what to with the thing. So it sat for a while, and then moved to some siding in the woods. It’s still there, in strangely good condition.

The woods have been rumored to be home to a wide host of things, though it is agreed that one is man shaped, and hangs around the locomotive. There is very little graffiti on it too, as someone or something is very persistent with cleaning it. The only one that stays on is a group of very persistent weebs who keep painting Dorothy from VA-11 Hall-A making dumb jokes with the Climax name.

Now I'm wondering what else that crazed engineer has done... Like, what? A Ford Model T steamer rail-car? Motorized steam coach?

I'm surprised it took you this long to put two and two together.

Suddenly, I'm wondering if this Climax was made by the exact same crazy engineer that made the 2-2-2-2 Camelback...
