Class description
Corvettes (FS) are a class of small ocean going warships, forming the backbone of the auxillary and patrol fleet. Corvettes are subdivided into four styles: General purpose corvettes such as the Stalwart class, which are tasked with many of the escort and patrol duties. Torpedoboats, starting at the Vigilance class, which rely on high speeds and a large compliment of torpedoes to destroy subs and surface ships. These evolve into the subdestroyer class. Lastly, missile corvettes carry a heavy armament of medium to large missiles to destroy surface ships and heavy airships. These start with the Hunter class and evolve into the shipdestroyer class.

The ship
The Shortsword was designed to be a more powerful anti-submarine vessel than the Vigilance. Both share the same main design requirements: A heavy torpedo armament in a high speed planing hull. The Shortsword carries two L sized torpedoes, mounted in the stern. Eight medium torpedo launchers in the bow compliment her armament. Against ships and aerial targets, she has a bow mounted APS turret and central mounted VLS cells with missiles. Her maximum speed lies around 34 m/s, which is comparable to the Vigilance and enables her to outrun much of the torpedoes that an enemy submarine may launch at it. Her high speed also makes it a very competitive ship against the slower factions on Neter. The Hunter MKII is based on the hull of the Shortsword, and together they are very good and cheap early game units.

The Shortsword is part of the anti-submarine line of vessels, which starts at the Vigilance. The line will further evolve to the Longsword destroyer.
