Description.

Series 185 trains were introduced to replace Series 153 trains, and were designed as a new attempt by Japan National Railways to accommodate commuter transport while being an express train.
It was decided to terminate regular operation in March 2021, and all trains will be scrapped by 2022.

As of 2023, it is still being operated on a temporary basis, even though it was supposed to be.
