Description
Introducing my first released layout!

A proper home for the DM&G rolling stock fleet--the Mesa Yards in the spring of 1928. Hidden in the shadows of Grand Mesa, the largest flattop mountain in the world, Mesa’s still the same dirt-road, wooden-cabin sort of town it was when the railroad arrived in 1898. Yet appearances can be deceiving; this blue-collar backwater burg didn’t get itself on the railroad’s seal for nothing. It’s a key junction to the lucrative mining claims of Grand Junction, linking that town to the mountains of Gunnison and the Mile High City itself, Denver.

Despite its 1920s setting, all of the DM&G liveries will look quite at home running on this layout, or at least the main line. I designed the layout for light switching between the two yards and the power station, so I’d like to hear how well it works in practice.

You’ll need just two props for this layout: Seraph’s excellent Model T pickup and taxi. Every livery in the DM&G collection is featured here too, so you might want to get those.

I did a lot of new things making this layout--it’s my first with skybox support, for example--and of all the layouts I’m working on, this is easily one of the best. Give it a go and see what you think!

Special thanks to Seraph for the Ts, Microcosmologist for scenery input, and both for general support. And of course, to everyone who’s subscribed to the liveries I’ve been putting out for this jam; I don’t think I’ve had anything blow up to quite that degree, and I’m super stoked that people enjoy them that much.

I absolutely love this layout - the detailing is fantastic, but even better, when you go down into full scale and the scenery is extended beyond the tabletop so brilliantly that it feels like a real place. Even the bridge to the workbench, nice easter egg. This is by far the best execution I've seen of this idea, and it is so satisfying! I can see you went on to do more of this on G&D with even larger scope.
For some constructive criticism, I found it quite tricky to operate (breaking/building trains from the car spots) and the main line's impossibly tight helixes and only short time spent out of sight really bothered me for some strange reason! On mine I will be extending it.
Looking forward to more scenic layouts from you.

Living in Golden, CO, this layout scratches an itch that I didn't know I needed until now and now I can't go back. Thank you.
