Command & Conquer™ Remastered Collection

.::: Mission Index :::.
By Chimas
The MISSION INDEX is a catalog with fan made single player missions and campaigns for Tiberian Dawn enrolled in a list called The HUGE Collection.

In there, you can analyse many map features:
- Filter missions by theater of operation, for example and compare them;
- Check if a mission has a BASE section and how many structures will be rebuilt during the game or
- How many vehicles a mission start with.
This list was created to describe missions without spoilers. It also contain comments and suggestions made when these missions were recovered.

Missions, Missions Everywhere
Hallo Commander!

Around a decade ago, cnc-comm.com and cncnz.com were apparently remnant forums for Command and Conquer games. From there, we started to sweep the Internet for fan made Tiberian Dawn maps and missions before they would vanish for good. This is the result so far.

Go here to access the mission files from CnCRem-Catalog[jmp.sh]

Important Notice: The ZIP file above contains missions for 1.06C patch developed by Nyerguds. Last year, I added a parameter line that allows the file to be recognized by CnC Remastered engine. Still, some missions might crash due to many reasons. That's why I'm bringing the collection slowly to STEAM.

So the HUGE Collection[forums.cncnet.org] started to take shape with the hardworking help of mapmakers/modders like 23-Down, Nyerguds, Tore, AlexB, Lightning Hunter, Heavy Lobster and Oedi. Paralel to releasing the missions to the CnC fans, a Mission Index was provided so the player could pick the game from a list without having to deal with spoilers.

Go here to access the MISSION INDEX[docs.google.com].

This guide explains the data you'll find inside the worksheet above.
It's an analytical database where you can compare or filter features amongst many Tiberian Dawn's maps/missions. These fields will be described below

The Map Section

  • Column N - item number
  • Column House - On which side the game is played by
  • Column Pack - Before CnC Remastered, games were organized in *.MIX files. These packs could contain hundreds of maps
  • Column Code - mission code, necessary for the original game back in 1995. It seems now, the Remastered is free from this constraint. This information was kept to help organize the archives.
  • Column Mission - The name of the mission

  • Column SizeWH - Size of the map
  • Column Theater - In what terrain the mission will take place
  • Column Release Date - When the map was created and released originally
Meet the Meat Grinder

So the following items are taken from the *.INI file that sets the parameters for the mission you'll play.
Not too dificult to understand, but I'll comment each one, regarding the example provided.

  • Column TEAMTYPES
    In the game script, this section states the squads (patrols, reinfforcements, replacements,etc), their attitude (capabilities) and their behavior (movement and action upon arrival).
    In the Index, it informs how many squads will be available for the players, mostly for the computer player

  • Column TRIGGERS
    Command and Conquer computer action is a mix of mine field, time bomb and fate - somewhere and in some time something will target your units or base, maybe using the squads listed in the previous section
    In the Index, it informs how many triggers are there waiting for you;

  • Column BASE - This is where the mission is scripted to rebuild the strutctures needed to counter your mission.
    In the Index, it informs how many structures will be rebuilt.

  • Column INFANTRY - Number of Infantry in the map in the beginning of the mission
  • Column UNITS - Number of vehicles in the map in the beginning of the mission
  • Column STRUCTURES - Number of Structures in the beginning of or during the mission

Let's go through some data in the sample.
Notice missions WWIII and Money War:
- there are almost no teamtypes and base section. These are still playable, but might be poor. But you probalby won't find it in STEAM (yet);
- Also notice how high I-U-S numbers are. The mapmaker might have used elements to compensate the lack of scripting skills;
- Still, if the map is interesting, these missions can be repurposed in the future by adding more triggers and teamtypes, for example.

Side Notes

  • Column AUTHOR
    In the original game script, there was no Authoral field, because everything was made by WestWood and the fans invited themselves later to the party.

    When I started dealing with so many maps, authors were "screaming" inside the game files for awareness. So, I decided to standardize the presentation inside the BASIC SECTION, granting an uniform information for all mapmakers.

    Much later on last year, CnC Remastered was released and, a few updates later, the Author line was enabled in the BASIC section, just like I did back in 2012. Personally, I think the developers noticed my concerns and respect with mapmaking and decided to reinforce and acknowledge the efforts of our community to keep this gem shining and going.

    Thanks EA and developers for this care.

  • Column EXTRA
    For now, highlights which missions are available here in STEAM, just use the filter.

  • Column Notes and Evaluations -
    Personal comments on the making of the HUGE Collection.

    Also there is a scale guiding on how interesting the mission could be, check it out:
    • 1 - Weak - incomplete, broken, lacks T&T
    • 2 - Boring, flat or empty map - too much work for simple moves
    • 3 - Promising - few features under the hood
    • 4 - Mid Range - Easy and Interesting
    • 5 - Hard - thick layer here ...
    • 6 - Long mission - for my skills
    • 7 - Must-play - personal taste)
Upcoming
There is more to be told, so I'll be editing this document in the future.

Meanwhile, I politely ask you to play some of the missions released here in Steam and see if you like them. If you know how to handle the mission files manually, you can dowload much more here directly from the HUGE Collection[jmp.sh] *.

All files already have the parameter set to be playable in the Remastered version. Despite of that, some are crashing and I'll take time to fix it. Also, the last missions of the collection has parameters that were available in Nyerguds 1.06 C patch, which are not available anymore. I'll write a section on that matter later, because those missions are great in the way they were conceived.

Ok, I'm done for now and you can contact me anytime here in STEAM or the comments section. If you plan to play many single player missions of the HUGE collection, let me know and let's talk about it.

IT'S DO OR DIE TIME!
LET'S DO IT!

Hi just want to say thank you for your work in making these available to be played on Remastered.

I've tested all of the missions in the catalog, and have marked some missions that are crashing, stuck at loading, or simply unplayable (hoping one day they can be fixed and playable on Remastered).
I've put the list in the thread I created dedicated to singleplayer user maps:
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/app/1213210/discussions/0/4153959587254364400/?ctp=2

Looking forward for the unreleased and uncatalogued missions :)

No, this collection is fan made missions majorly from before 2008. I'm not planning to expand it to more recent mapmakers. If you know how to handle the INI files you can play or try any of them. The ones I'm bringing to Steam are those I consider as more interesting, but many of them are no match for today's pace standard. This collection is for casual players.

I hadn't realised that there were so many missions online in other places. I can't wait to get my hands on these when you eventually bring them over! Are you going to create your own collection like mine? Or are you just gonna put these onto the workshop?
