Introduction
I played Avadon 1 and Avernum 1 and 2 and I really like this series.

I decided to make this guide because it might look a little bit tricky to know how to 100% the game in one walkthrough and it was easy. You can do a run where you can get both rebel and loyal endings using a save before the final fight.

Ive always played on Torment and I have to say this game was the easiest so far, so dont worry about it.

Some bosses had tricky mechanics and I did love em :3

I loved Turrets.. MY turrets, not someone else's turrets :/

Those spells that expand as a circle are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥... I hated it on Torment.

This forum thread has excellent advice, do give it a read when you can.

and this: https://spiderwebforums.ipbhost.com/topic/19772-avadon-2-strategy-central-look-here-for-help/

Well, without further ado, let's get started!
Tips and personal notes
Items
If it doesnt have Value, you cant sell it, leave it.
All merchants buy your things at the same prices.
Some merchants sell their things cheaper than others.
Dont forget to click the scrollingbar/sidebar or down arrow on a merchant sell list to see extra items.

Exceptions are:
  • Arcane scrolls
  • Pact papers
  • Drake skins (Used in Monitor C)
  • Rare items for Nicodemus (the description says its craftable material)

Dont sell resurrection scrolls! Save them for the Redbeard fight, dont use them until you get the medal/achievement though. You get enough money doing sidequests so try and keep all wands/scrolls/potions, you never know...

Around midgame, in Fort Foresight a small quest requires bellows, a hoe and a chisel.
Hoes are outside the fort and chisel+bellows in Nicodemo's workshop.
Timon's 2nd quest requires: beaker, ornate bowl and a pipe.
Beaker+Bowl at the start of the temple of Nolus, the pipe in ruined ruins NE of Serdica.

Every lockpick point lets you save one lockpick from its opening difficulty, its party wide, so one point in two separate characters counts as 2, most locked things need 8 points in total.
If the door requires 3 lockpicks, having 3 points in tool use will open it for free.
I personally had a team with 8 points in lockpick in total, every now and then I used 1 lockpick but it was super rare.

Remember to look for loot in corpses, some vases/urns, skull piles, barrels and nests.

You can also find good things on the ground, check often but checking every room will take forever.

Some magic items look exactly like mundane items, if you have just ended a fight and you see a stupid tunic, double check to see if its magic or not.

Dont sell charm scrolls or summoning things, sometimes you will need to fight on your own and these come really handy. Ditto for speed potions and corruption wands.

Keep this guide open, its very handy to not miss any magic items as you play along, it lists available quests and their rewards, super handy.

Combat
You will unlock all companions once you reach Avadon, the Black Fortress.

If you are in melee, you can back up 1 square then shoot or shoot someone far.

You can lure some enemies out from their patrol area or they guard spot so they wont pile up on you. Enter combat, move your tank close, see them see you, move back to your party.

Dont be afraid to run away. You can kill one or two enemies while one party member runs away back to stairs/ladder/door, when the rest die, he will bring your others back.

If you kill a summoner, its summons will disappear. Target summoners first.

Even if someone dies, everyone(ppl in Avadon included) still gets XP as long as you are able to end combat.

Levels matters so much in this game. If you keep missing or doing low damage its because you are underleveled, go level up somewhere else and come back later.

You can attack twice if you have 10AP, each attack consumes up to 9AP.
That said, items that give "+1 action point" dont always give you 1AP at the start of the round.

Enemies dont respawn unless its a very special scripted event, the XP you get is limited, however, you can re-spec your skills for free in Fort Foresight, around midgame.
The level cap is 30, even on Torment you can get there before endgame, no worries.
I personally got this about the time I went to face Konstantina in Titan Lands, I did all sidequests up until then.

Turrets cant move and usually have less range than your bows, use this to your advantage.
Freezing/Flaming Turrets have the most armor/hp, they make good barricades to hide behind.
You can use AOE spells/attacks to destroy mines.

Even though mines regenerate, you can whittle down their HP even if you die.
As long as one party member cant see any enemies/mines, the disarmer can run to the mine, disarm, die, then resurrect as the battle ends, quickly enter battle again and run to the mine to disarm it again.

You can recover vitality by exiting the map, if you are running low, make a tactical retreat to restore fatigue and then come back.. until you reach Avadon it seems. If you are already a Hand, you need to touch a Pylon to recover.

Some quests are rough and trap you somewhere until you find an exit, so no retreat for you.
Always have a backup save whenever you enter a new map area, in case the game gets too tough and you need to reload, this goes double for Torment difficulty.

On Golems
They are immune to magic but you can hit them with Fire/Ice.
They can knock you back with attacks so its always wise to tie them down with your back against the wall/pillar/altar so they dont push you off then go after your squishy folk.

Interface
Remember to assign stat and skill points as you level up, dont worry, you can reset them around midgame in Fort Foresight. You usually need to assign stats before you are able to assign skills.

If you click on the Map bar, you can move it around.
If you click on its green button, you can close the thing.

When you have a pet summon, its AP are shown in its owner's portrait during its turn.

You can hold down CTRL key to send items directly into your junk bag when you click on them.

Other notes (Spoilers)
This might be a little spoilery, but these are some notes I made of times when I got stuck.

Some battles, you only need to survive a certain number of turns, like the corridor with the turrets, if you are doing very low damage, you arent meant to kill/beat it.. or maybe youre way underleveled, come back later.

You need to find and activate 3 washbasins in the Temple to be able to reach the middle.

For Khalida's quest, check both the wood podiums in the interrogation wing AND the stone podium in a room close to the Eternal Prisoner, Khalida on your team, of course.

The 2nd Zephyr is at the Arena.

For Yannick's quest, he might tell you to go, but wait until the butler tells you to go. ok?

When Odil and rebels parley, one will run away. Dont worry, let them run, take your time.
You will hunt them down eventually. You cant kill them in the bridge fight even if you surround them.
I suggest you save the rebels here. Do a hard save (dont overwrite) before crossing the bridge with Odil in case you need to come back.

In Valera's temple, you can return later with your crew to kill/loot. Doing it all solo is very time consuming. Do a hard save before speaking to the guy on top of the tower.

In the Core's fight, you need to tie down the north horrors with pets, distract them, while someone kills one of the minor horrors to the south, make sure one of your characters is within 5 squares of the monster that dies so they can pick up the light. Run back to Miranda with the character holding the light to disable her shield for a few rounds, rinse and repeat.. rip and tear until its done.
https://youtu.be/L1dGc6RFyn4

After you escape the temple and enter the Fort, there is a hidden cave north with a vitality spring and some supplies, when the game tells you enemies are coming from the south, run to the fort, the enemies wont stop spawning from the south and then from the north, having the teleportation scarab equipped in someone who can use battle frenzy will help lots.
Storyline Achievements
Cant miss em.

The War Begins
Survive an unexpected attack.

Conscription
Become a Hand of Avadon.

The First Clues
Explore an abandoned base.

The Pure Land
Find out where Miranda went.

End of the Maze
Defeat the ogres and learn the rebels' secret.

The Sleeping God
Escape a Tawon temple alive.

A Dragon's Error
Get away from the lair of Vardegras.

Caught Your Quarry
Conclude your business at Konstina's camp.

The Mad God
Investigate another Tawon temple.

To the Core and Back
Show that there is nowhere the Hands of Avadon cannot reach.
Point of No Return
This is the point of no return, once you go in that trapdoor, you wont be able to finish any sidequests.
So make sure you have all sidequest missable achievements and companion quests done.

This trapdoor will only appear after you speak to Redbeard during the mission: "The final hunt"

After getting the final quest: The Final Hunt go ahead and prepare.
  • Use the enhancement forge on all your best gear.
  • Use your money to buy the blessings from the witch at NE of Temple of Aetius.
  • Use the retraining in Fort Foresight to remove lockpicking boosts you've had for extra skill points.
  • Buy from the same trainer trinkets/scarabs you might need, buy scrolls, potions, everything, you wont need money after the end.
  • Distribute all your scrolls/potions to the companions you will use.
  • Equip/Level the rest of the companions, use leftover enhancement spheres on them.

All done? travel to the trapdoor and make a Hard Save before going in (Do not overwrite)

Just a reminder that if you want to make both Loyal and Rebel endings a little bit easier you must have betrayed Odil and convinced Dheless you are on his side to get two important items that will help you against Redbeard AND also done all companion quests in their favor.

Difficulty Achievements
If you want to do a single playthrough, start in Torment mode.
Do all companion quests and side with the rebels as much as you can to get the items from Protus and Dheless. (Read this: )

Even if you side with the rebels, the choice is done when you last speak with Redbeard at the mission called Endgame. Read this guide's section: Point of No Return.

b4rystoteles reports:
"I changed the difficulty before the fight and before entering the area and it didn't work. I assume you need to START the game with at least HARD setting."

So just to be safe, if you dont want to do multiple walkthroughs, start in Torment.

Hand of Avadon
Complete Avadon 2 on Normal difficulty.

Eye of Avadon
Complete Avadon 2 on Hard difficulty.

Heart of Avadon
Complete Avadon 2 on Torment difficulty.

All of the 3 achievements above can be completed if you finish on Torment.

Die Less Next Time
Reach the endgame without ever using a Resurrection scroll. (Normal difficulty or higher.)

The "endgame" is when you reach Fort Foresight's cellar in the mission "The final hunt"

Warrior of the Pact
Complete Avadon 2 and remain loyal to Redbeard. (Normal difficulty or higher.)

Even if you set everything up to kill Redbread (See achievement below), you can still get the loyal ending by not attacking Redbeard and telling him you want to remain a loyal hand (maybe it also triggers by choosing other posts/roles, idk).

https://youtu.be/08qfjJSujzQ

Forced Retirement
Complete Avadon 2 and take Redbeard's place. (Normal difficulty or higher.)

Get on Heart Protus side to get his special item which helps a lot against Redbeard.
Also join the rebels (or pretend to) to get on Dheless good side and get his special item.
Read here on how: https://spiderwebforums.ipbhost.com/topic/20106-which-options-matter-super-spoilerific

Choose to bring all your companions with you to the fight, if its too tough, I believe you can also lower the difficulty once you get all other medals. (Normal or higher) and it will still pop.
https://youtu.be/RzEEMhJ63w8

Full of Hot Air
Kill Krymhylas, Lord of Winds. (Hard difficulty or higher.)

After Monitor D's fight, you can talk to the Shade of Krymhylas and try to attack it but you wont be able to, since its like an illusion. Move on. He is actually in the Northeast part of the base behind turrets, mines and powerful Incubus demons and... a closed gate. After reporting to Avadon, I came back and the gate was open, he kicked my ass. After Redbeard sent me to the corruption for a 2nd time, I was L28 and was able to beat him (Torment) using a couple of speed potions, group heal scrolls and wands of calling. He attacks with AOE Poison, Acid and Ice; Single Target Fire.
The other monsters/turrets will constantly spawn and add to the enemies every 5 turns, so bring your AOE to control the spawns but focus on Krymhylas, once he dies, everything disappears.

A Dragon's Punishment
Kill Vardegras. (Normal difficulty or higher.)

Dont fight him alone, get through the story (run away) and when he "lets you go", go grab your friends, come back and THEN kick its draky ass, bring fire protection, ofc.

The more golems you kill, the more damage and resistance he gets so try and snare/occupy the golems with pets from wand of calling.

Once he gets serious and you are surrounded.. well.. try and kill him as fast as you can or else you will get overwhelmed as the enemies wont stop respawning. He is immune to fire so reflect wont work on him. Try to tie down the dragon using a salamander so he wont move. You can also lure him to a gate so you wont get surrounded by the corruption.

This is a video of how I killed him on Torment.
https://youtu.be/HG4DemSMBMw

A Hand Fears Nothing
Kill a god on Torment difficulty!

Its not Aetius, so dont worry if you cant fight him.
After you deal with Odil or Konstantina, you will be sent to Tawon again.
Here you will meet Valera, which is the goddess you are meant to kill.
Dont fight her alone. Finish the solo mission, go to Avadon and get your friends, come back and try your luck. The fight is hard but not impossible.

To fight her, talk to her about getting followers and how they will be super impressed if she dueled a Hand of Avadon on "fair" terms. You can set up turrets. summon pets, buff yourself, etc, do a quicksave and then talk to her so you can begin the fight advantageously.

When she starts giving you her eye curse, you need to have a quick eye to see who got cursed after the text, that is the target and you have 2 or 3 turns to run behind a pillar or into one of the corridors to avoid her "gaze".

When she is below 30%HP she will start using a corruption attack AND a poison curse, if you are close to an ally, the poison curse will trigger, does about 50 damage, the corruption attack is the one that can kill you though. But Im sure you can manage.

Here is a video of my fight, might help if you are having troubles.

Missable Achievements
Some are quest related, others, secrets.
A lot of these side quests have phases, you wont be able to progress until you proceed into the story, you can do them all right before the point of no return.

Wall Spots
Find a secret door.

Check out this guide, keep it handy to get those bonuses you need for Torment difficulty, this achievement comes free.
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=305552560

The very first secret button is while you try and get to the keep, after the blademaster joins you.

Can't Stop Lovin' Cake
Eat a cake.

The first cake you can find is inside some bags at the entrance of the "cell" the dragon Vardegras tells you to go in, this happens in the midgame.

First For Everything
Kiss somebody.

Check out this guide for the two achievements above.
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=196146024

More details for successful romance in here:
https://spiderwebforums.ipbhost.com/topic/20106-which-options-matter-super-spoilerific/
The first important part is when you enter Ogre's Thicket, so read the thread above carefully.
The second one is in Titan's lands. You need to side with the rebels against Odil but dont fear, you can still support Redbeard at the end. After you deal with Odil, go back to the rebel camp and you will find Silke on the second floor, up a ladder in the southeasternmost closed room, so dont forget to save before talking to her and getting that kiss and this achievement!

Remember the Fallen
Return two honor tokens to Avadon.

The honor tokens are located in:
Avadon's Tower of Trials, if you complete them in time allowed; otherwise the chest is empty, to access the tower talk to Hand Kaede in the training room. L15 or above recommended.

You have around 15 to 20 rounds to beat all enemies or else you will fail the test but you can re-try it later. Read more here: https://spiderwebforums.ipbhost.com/topic/19916-tips-for-tower-of-trials/

Ogre's Thicket on the west side, after Hundred Claws is dead.
Stagnant Waters, after seeing Vardegras, the Dragon.
Rockfall Canyon in corpse to the SE, after talking to Blademaster Hadya NE of the zone.

Each token lets you train with Kaede for a 2% boost to something of your choice, you cant pick the same boost twice.

Corrupted No Longer
Find Eye Dymas and help her return to safety.

You start this quest when you talk to the Hand Esmee in the Fort Rockridge HQ.
Like most achievement quests, it has several parts to it, you wont be able to finish this until you are sent to the Titan lands.

Once you find her beneath the specimen chambers, you must save her by not killing her, its easier said than done. In the first phase, Dymas will attack you with spells, try and use knockback spells or attacks to throw Dymas into the summoning circle, back to the east wall as far as you can.

Once Dymas is less than 50% HP, Dymas will regain all HP and freeze, she wont attack anymore.
In hindsight, you know what, knock her away from the circle instead so your pets can AOE.
Not sure if that would work, let me know in the comments.

Now a bunch of enemies will come out of the circle, some have spine shield and others reflection so be careful with your AOE spells and attacks, specially to NOT hit Dymas with them.

Learn your turret's range and position them to attack the enemies but not Dymas, you can use pets from wands of calling/shaman powers to make some sort of wall between the summoning circle and you, tying the enemies down. Dymas will not attack this whole time but she can take damage and if she dies, the achievement will be missed.

I didnt count but it felt I had killed 30 or 50 enemies before it stopped and I got the achievement.
It also might be the number of "waves" that spawn, but Im not sure.
Missable Achievements (cont.)

Mad Science
Have Nicodemus complete six artifacts for you.

You need to have the craftable source item in the first character inventory (your MC's inv).
Each artifact costs 500g to make. 6/8 in total.

Read this guide and search Nico to find places and items you need to get for this achievement.
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/mac/704802-avadon-2-the-corruption/faqs/68206

And the Law Won
Hunt down Chabon and bring him to justice.

When you are finally able to leave Avadon, you can get a sidequest to go to the Avadon's dungeons and go south to help with an interrogation. Chabon is a tinkermage, a very naughty one.
Just remember that once you meet Chabon for the first time, you cant go back up to Avadon to refresh your vitality. So have a save before going down there in case the quest is too tough.
After a few fights, you wont be able to follow him through the Deep Dungeons, go back and report.

Once you report back from your first trip to the Corruption, you can continue this quest and surprise, surprise, he fled deeper underground and you wont be able to continue until you finish Tawon's first trip storyline, then you can finish it off.

Craftmaster
Augment 20 items.

Use the anvil to enchant/augment weapons and armors 20 times.
You need to buy/find 20 spheres, its easier than you think.

Treasure Hunter
Fully explore the abandoned workshop outside Troezen.

You wont be able to open a gate until you talk to Basilia in town and get the quest from her AND are about to go to your 2nd trip to the Corruption but then.. surprise, surprise, there is a 2nd locked gate. This one wont open until you survive several waves of enemies.. then make a sketch and wait..after you deal with Konstantina's lair, you will be sent to Tawon again and you can finally reach the core for a final fight.
Read this thread if you are having trouble with it:
https://spiderwebforums.ipbhost.com/topic/19885-troezen-trove-final-fight-help-lsome-spoilers/

Landed Gentry
Buy two houses. Yes, two!

The first house is a farmhouse in the area called Kva Riverlands.
You need to reach the little village and talk to the carpenter there, she will explain about Skyrise farms and how some brigands are camped out there, go scare them off and return. She will now offer to sell you the farm for 2000g. You can get a Necklace of Vitality (8% phy res., +15% healing) but you need to be over level 15 and visit the farm 3 times (enter basement, see message, exit and re-enter the riverlands area, go to basement), so no point in wasting money until you can beat the ghost.

The second one is The house of Melanetha in Troezen.
It costs 3000 gold and doesnt give anything else but this achievement.
You can save, buy the house, get the medal/achievement, then reload to save your 3k g.

Enchanting/Augmenting
Once you reach Avadon and meet Nicodemus, you are able to buy more spheres to enchant.
But what to enchant? You can only use one sphere per item and its consumed forever.

What items are worth enchanting?
Well.. check this out: https://spiderwebforums.ipbhost.com/topic/19760-armor-and-weapons-spoilers/

Lots of armors and weapons, you cant enchant missile weapons or jewelry.

You also need to consider how soon you can enchant things, as if you enchant something early on, it will be more useful to you in the long run versus enchanting the best gear just to prepare for the final fights.

The best runestones are deep on armor for +5% to evade getting hit, glowing runes for +1 to endurance, purity for +1 to dexterity, and golden for +4% to all resistances.

You can use the others as you find them on the gear you are currently using.

Tinkermages have this craft armor skill, its not for enchanting OR crafting.
The skill just gives the tinker an automatic bonuses to its defenses, its pretty powerful.

Later on, you can actually craft armor out of drake skins (in Monitor C) and parts you find in the Corruption, the crafter is south from the Research Center.

Great guide – I'm finally replaying these games, and it was great to have everything clearly laid out!

Neat! Good to know, still beating them on Torment its its own achievement, haha.
Thanks SlowHam :)

Once you run through it on torment, if the difficulty level was too annoying/hard you can actually set it to hard/normal/casual and then run back and get the difficulty kills that way. The dragon on normal and demon on hard are pathetically easy.

Great guide.

Thanks great guide
