What It Does

All shield bearing Dwarf units and characters are given 55% missile parry chance.

Dwarf Warriors, Warriors of Dragonfire Pass, and Longbeards are given the "Dwarfen Shieldwall" passive ability. This adds +15% missile parry chance to these units when they are not moving, not engaged in melee, and their health is above 50%, giving them a total of 70% missile parry chance when conditions are met.

Ironbreakers and Norgrimling's Ironbreakers are given the "Gromril-hard" passive ability. This adds +30% missile parry chance to these units when they are not moving, not engaged in melee, and their health is above 50%, giving them a total of 85% missile parry chance when conditions are met.


Motivations

Dwarfs have been left behind as each successive DLC adds new and interesting units, abilities, and faction mechanics. As power creep lingers ever onwards, the Dwarfs need an answer. That, and a goblin having a better shield than a Dwarf is a wrong that clearly must be righted. Since Dwarfs lack any and all mobility, I decided to play to their strengths. Dwarfs are tanky and nearly implacable, so I made their shields perform better than any other race. To balance the absolutely bonkers missile parry chance, I made it so they must be standing still, not currently fighting, and above half health, since you obviously can't form a static shieldwall if you're walking/running, chopping up those damned thaggoraki, or are sufficiently bruised.

All that said, this mod is not intended to be well balanced. If you're of the opinion that Dwarfs are too tanky or already tanky enough, then you probably shouldn't download this mod.


Known Issues

Since this is my first mod, who knows what might be wrong with it? I expect there really won't be much out of place, if anything, but please do let me know if there is so that I can correct it (and learn more!).

Thanks for the mod!

Could you do one with just the shield block to 55%, without the extra active buff when they are idling? Combined its really too OP.

Dawi a small in stature with big shields, I always dislike that they only get 35% block chance.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention! CA changed the melee attack values for Ironbreakers last patch, and since this mod was made before then, it still had the old melee attack values for them. Should be fixed for Ironbreakers and Norgrimling's Ironbreakers now!

Awesome mod! I've noticed Ironbreakers have only 30MA instead of vanilla's 34MA. Is this an incompatibility issue? Or has anyone else noticed this?

As long as that mod doesn’t modify the land_units tables (which it doesn’t seem to), it should be fine. No guarantees, though.
