Description

An SSTO dropship.
⨴ Landing gear is automatic and can survive a 10m drop.
⨴ If you have SpecialEffects installed, two particle emitters activate when flaps are in descent position, helping to show how the vehicle is falling.
⨴ The vehicle is aerodynamically balanced; as long as the rear is pointed down you should be able to land without too much trouble.

As the Collapse continued its inexorable advance, the Eisvogel became a common sight across the Spiral. Day and night, below constant meteor showers of reentry shells, they shuttled people and cargo up and down from orbit that couldn't stand the strain of reentry shells. They prepared planets and populations to do whatever damage they could to the Auraxian forces before their inevitable destruction.

Cheap and capable, they were produced in such numbers that perhaps they could have evacuated those worlds instead. But what was the point? Even if the Auraxians were taking huge losses they could no longer replenish, they had enough to ensure escape was impossible. Better to spend what little time they had left ensuring their deaths would mean something.

The Strigon was... not exactly streamlined, and it's based on a Space Engineers design. Space Engineers is a grid-based game. Besiege is not. And with the advent of build surfaces, I can now demonstrate that in a way that puts Space Engineers to shame.

The Strigon's influences as a shuttle were the Falcon 9 and the Rocinante - at the time, a tail-sitter spaceship in Space Engineers was revolutionary. It's still pretty novel.
The Eisvogel's influence is... probably pretty obvious. Let's be honest - there aren't that many spaceship designs which use descent flaps.

Shuttles are dedicated cargo and crew transport craft.
They carry their payloads to and from orbit and beyond. While planetside shuttles are typically the smallest of practical spaceships, their orbital counterparts are often the largest.

           My toolbox. Contains useful stuff.
