Coal Merchant Trucks (by JK)

Description
Very large capacity fuel carrying lorry and horse-drawn wagon.

When houses were heated by coal fires, the railways delivered this to the towns and cities. Local coal merchants would distribute small quantities from the railways. Towns and cities also had Gas Works, which burnt coal to create 'town gas' that was piped to fuel heating and lighting in the vicinity.

Coal is a fuel, albeit a solid fuel.

Used to see coal delivery trucks right up to the late 60's where I lived in the UK, as loads of houses still had coal fires, but these were slowly converted over to gas [North Sea].
