"Amshack" American Passenger Train Station

Description
About Amshacks

After the decline and nationalization of American passenger rail, many of the country's once-grand stations had fallen into disrepair and were now serving a tiny fraction of the passengers they once were. Strapped for cash, and eager to showcase rail travel as clean and modern, Amtrak (called CityLink in game) developed the "Standard Stations Program", which sold off or demolished antiquated station buildings and replaced them with much smaller modernist stations from a selection of prefabricated parts.

Designed for easy construction, almost 20 Amshacks went up throughout the 1970s and 1980s. They were designed to be expandable, flexible, and modern, incorporating recent innovations in rail station design and airport passenger experience. These stations were most common in the Rust Belt, but some existed as far west as California, and as far south as Miami.

While the architecture did not age well, and tight budgets prevented proper maintenance, a few Amshacks survive to this day, while many have been replaced with more modern station buildings. Even as they're being demolished in real life, you can build this Amshack station here in Cities Skylines, to relive the 70s glory of what Amtrak once was.

This asset requires the North American Rail (NAR) pack for the appropriate low-level station platforms. You can use the decorative station building without NAR installed, just ignore the error for the main building (or disable it in the Content Manager).

Asset Features
  • Accurate model based on real designs and blueprints from the Rochester, NY Amshack (RIP)
  • Two track, dual platform layout, with low-level platforms
  • Requires North American Rail (NAR) for station track
  • Includes ploppable, decorative version for building your own platforms
  • Includes two props, a matching trash can and a platform sign

Special thanks to TheTimeister, TheIntern, and Kalinsky for the screenshots.

This asset was made for bigmoodenergy's Amshack bonus episode, and was released to celebrate Amtrak's 50th birthday in 2021.

@A Fat, Angry Serval -

No, this is an actual Amshack based on real blueprints and reference images from the Standard Stations Program, which is where the term "Amshack" was born. Since then, the term has been co-opted to describe even crummier stations, but this is the original.

This isn't really an Amshack, it's still a pretty decent station by US standards. Amshacks usually refer to stations that are completely minimal in design, consisting of a small, makeshift platform and a small shed.

@Warner - unfortunately no, this station is already the game's maximum platform length without hacky solutions with multiple stopping points.

is it possible you can make a version with a long enough platform to support an 8 car moded Amtrak Train?
