Description
Update 6/09/14 - the Ibis no longer enjoys frying its tailguns off. one side engine was transferred to a safer spot in the front

Update 6/5/14 - updated Firebird with conveyors (courtesy of Eruend)

Update 5/25/14 - Added a strip of armor to the head of the Ibis. this makes the head not only a little bit more reinforced, but also more aesthetically pleasing

Update 5/24/14 - Added the Ibis Gunboat

Update 4/21/14 - added the Harpy Minelayer Version

Patrol Boats are the in-between class within fighters and corvettes. Like corvettes, they are typically deployed against fighters, and are sometimes better suited for it due to better speed and manuevering. However, they are shorter range than corvettes as they have less fuel and ammo storage. Patrol Boats therefore earn their name by being best suited for defense of starbases where they can easily return to re-fuel and re-equip.

Firebird
Mass: 310k kg
Acceleration: 4.6m/s^2
Weapons: 2 guns

the Firebird patrol boat was based on captured military escorts, which were later renovated to better suit the needs of the colonies that found them. they work well as mining transports with lower spotlights, an ore detector, and a heavy armor landing pad on top for a mining ship. however, they also can be used as boarding vessels, where they use their landing gear to latch on and drag derelicts to a stop with their dampners.

Harpy
Mass: 470k kg
Acceleration: 5.1m/s^2
Weapons: 3 guns, 2 launchers
Storage: 7 small containers

the Harpy is the first patrol boat model designed by Phoenix Shipyards. It is meant to be agile and move quickly to defend against enemy fighters and other small vessels.

Harpy Minelayer
Mass: 519k kg
Acceleration: 0.97m/s^2
Weapons: 3 guns
Storage: 1 small container for each of the 3 guns, 12 small containers for the minelayers, and 2 small containers for fuel storage (all independent systems)

The Harpy Minelayer was an adaptation of the small and agile Harpy Patrol Boat. it has 8 connector tubes to spray out explosive mines with 12 small containers for storage of the explosives. due to the highly volatile trail left behind this craft, the large engines were removed in favor of smaller engines which produce a smaller (and therefore safer) exhaust. the engines were also pushed more forward on the body so as to further keep exhaust away from the mines. unfortunately, this has the side effect of making the harpy slow and vulnerable, but its role is one that is designed to be long gone before the enemy arrives anyway. Still, it does have 3 guns for self defense, which are all placed on the bow of the craft so as to keep away from the mines behind. Guns were also used over missiles for the same safety purposes.

Ibis Gunboat
Mass: 560k
Acceleration: 5.04 m/s^2
Weapons: 2 guns, 6 rocket launchers
Storage 3 small cargo containers for each of the inner rockets, with 8 small containers for each of the wing weapon systems

The Ibis is basically an oversized fighter built with the intent to quickly outmanuever larger ships and blast them apart with the rapid firing rocket launchers. to cover it from behind, there are 2 gatling guns that serve as automated tailguns. it boasts the most comfortable interior of current Patrol Boat models, and was designed to serve as a shuttle craft for military officials.

I really love your work. The nice "round" ships. Mine are much more edgy :)

Nice looking ships, great to see more Phoenix ships, my favourite ships I've found on the workshop so far :) Keep up the good work.
