Engesa EE-17 Sucuri

O projeto do Caça-tanque Sucuri originou nos Anos 80, com o objetivo de encher uma lacuna de um veículo que seria mais poderoso que o EE-9 Cascavel e que seja muito ágil.

Com isso, a ENGESA, o fabricante do Cascavel e Urutu, criou um caça-tanque de origem nacional (Brasileira) que possui grande mobilidade e armamento de peso semelhante de carros de combate principais de batalha, porem com uma blindagem baixa para possibilitar altas velocidades.

o primeiro tipo do projeto, designado de "EE-17 Sucuri", veio equipado com um motor Detroit Diesel 6V53T (300Hp), uma torre basculante FL-12 de fabricação francesa, Canhão de 105mm pela GIAT francesa e uma metralhadora coaxial belga FN MAG de 7.62mm.
a blindagem ronda entre 10mm e 25mm de espessura, dependendo das partes do veículo.
a tripulação é composta pelo comandante, artilheiro e motorista, com 2 dos tripulantes embarcando no veículo pela entrada traseira do veículo, e o motorista pelo o lado esquerdo.

o conceito do veículo é muito interessante, principalmente para um país como o Brasil.

Embora o primeiro tipo parecia promisor, os custos, muito por culpa da torre complexa francesa, eram bastante altos e com isso, a ENGESA criou o segundo tipo, o EE-18 Sucuri II, com uma torre muito mais simples e mais bem protegida criada pela ENGESA, equipada com o canhão L7 (feita sob licença pela Oto Melara) de 105mm e uma metralhadora Coaxial FN MAG de 7.62mm.

O casco foi refeito, com uma inclinação maior e mais angulos para possibilitar uma proteção maior que a versão anterior, como o resultado dos estudos que a ENGESA realizou durante a construção do Carro de Combate EE-T1 (T2) Osório.

O motor do segundo tipo é o DS-11 da Scania, Diesel, 6 cilindros, com uma potência de 385hp.

a tripulação é composta pelo Comandante, Artilheiro, Carregador e Motorista, com todos os tripulantes entrando no veículo por via tradicional de carros de combate, ou seja, não há portas como a versão anterior.

o resultado foi um veículo com uma melhor mobilidade que o EE-17 Sucuri e maior poder de fogo que o Cascavel e o Uruvel/Hydracobra.

Porem, o veículo não entrou em produção, nem em serviço em nenhum ramo das forças armadas de nenhum país, devido à crise financeira da ENGESA que originou como resultado da falta de vendas do Osório e o calote que recebeu do Iraque na época.

isto resultou na falência da ENGESA uma década depois.

Eu decidi a criar o antecessor do EE-18. simples assim.

the Sucuri tank destroyer project originated in the 1980's, with the objective of providing a vehicle that was more powerful than the EE-9 Cascavel and that it had to be very agile.

with that, ENGESA, the manufacturer of the Cascavel and Urutu vehicles, created a national (brazilian) tank destroyer that had great mobility and armament comparable to some MBTs, with the sacrifice of less protective armour to allow higher speeds.

the first type of the project, designated "EE-17 Sucuri", came equipped with a Detroit Diesel 6V53T engine (300hp), a FL-12 french oscilating turret, 105mm GIAT cannon and a belgium FN MAG 7.62mm coaxial machine gun.
the armour thickness is around 10mm to 25mm, depending on the parts of the vehicle.
the crew is comprised of 3, commander, gunner and driver, 2 of them were to embark on the vehicle via the rear doors and the driver via the left door.

the concept of the vehicle was quite interesting, specially for a country like Brazil.

While the first type looked promising, the costs, with the turret being mainly at fault, were quite high and with that, ENGESA created a second type, the EE-18 Sucuri II, with a far simpler and more protected turret, equipped with a L7 (made under licence by Oto Melara) 105mm and a FN MAG 7.62mm coaxial machine gun.

the hull was remade, with more inclination and angles to improve protection to a higher level than it's predecessor as a result from the studies ENGESA had made during the Osório MBT construction.

the engine equipped on the Sucuri II is a 6 Cylinder Diesel DS-11 by Scania, with 385hp.

the crew is made of 4, commander, gunner, loader and driver. all 4 were to embark on the vehicle the tradicional way, akin to other military vehicles, i.e. no doors like the EE-17.

the result was a vehicle with far better mobility than it's predecessor and a higher firepower than the Cascavel and Uruvel/Hydracobra.

However, the vehicle never entered production, nor service on any branches of the armed forces of any nation, due to the finantial crisis that ENGESA was suffering from that originated from the Osório's lack of sales and the swindles that originated from Iraq, resulting in a lot of money being lost at the time.

this resulted in ENGESA's fall a decade later.
