PS Mersey 1 (Coal Powered)

With the large PS Nile I entering service in early 1863, the company had to charter a passenger tender. This was expensive, especially for the new company, so a tender was built specifically for the Nile Class. She was launched on July 9th 1863, and she was finished by September the same year. In August 1865, she collided with dock which damaged her paddle casing but she was repaired. She continued serving large ships until her capacity was lower than the demand in 1887. The small paddle tender was sold off, leaving many memories behind to those who travelled aboard her. A larger tender was chartered between 1887 and 1889, where the PS Mersey 1 was then, properly replaced with the larger tender, being the SS Mersey II of 1889.
