GOM - Daisy: Steam Tugboat

Description

GOM - Daisy: Steam Tugboat

A steam operated, twin-screw tugboat, repurposed as a ceremonial vessel/restaurant ship

Update
Fix: The developers deleted the boiler pressure node, breaking the functionality of the tug.
Updated the piping according to tests done after the compressible gasses update, way less pumps needed for the turbines, less pump noise on top of that. Enjoy!

Design No.: GOM 20210601
Vessel Name: GOM TB S 3200 Rev. 6
Platform: Monohull
Year: 1928

Top speed: 32 kts
Passengers: 24 (for stormlink use: ?pcap 24)

PID controlled boiler and firebox, powering 30 steam turbines and a large generator
Mass: 43.238
Fuel: 627 coal

Range: 3200 km

Length Overall: 34.5 m
Length Waterline: 34.5 m
Beam: 9.75 m
Draft: 3 m
Towing capacity: 450k mass (most likely more than that)

Cost: 159.123 $

Coal has to be refilled every ~4.5h, the firebox can hold up to 53 coal, the coal storage holds up to 576 coal, granting a total burntime of ~54h and a range of 3200km at 32 knots. Coal usage should drop below 11 coal per hour after the firebox has warmed up.
With a full coal storage the firebox can be refilled ~10.5 times until it needs to stock up on coal in a harbor.

About the vessel:
As former tugboat, "Daisy" was purchased by Holt Town and repurposed as a restaurant ship and can be rented for weddings, parties and other occasions. In emergencies it is still possible to tow broken down vessels and aid in firefighting due to the mounted, manually operable, high pressure water cannons. It comes with a wenge/teak deck, brass railings and bronze pipes.

Features:
Huge 500m towing winch astern
2x High pressure water turrets (~380m range @45°)
Tiltable propeller
Boiler room
Coal hatch on the rear deck
Coal slide inside the boiler room, firebox has to be refilled by hand
PID operated boiler/firebox
Telegraph that can be used as single or multiplayer module
Configurable mast head lights for both masts
Kitchen
Restaurant
Coal endurance display in the boiler room
2x Wheelhouse Flood Drain
2x Restaurant Flood Pumps
4x Boiler Room Flood Pumps
Emergency seats in the boiler room

Operation:

How to start:
  1. Head into the boiler room downstairs
  2. Engage the main braker
  3. Engage relay keys for Heater Pumps, Steam Pumps, Water Pumps, Radiator and Firebox
  4. Head over to the firebox
  5. Activate the firebox key above the firebox
  6. Make sure the firebox temperature lever is set to 130°
  7. Head over to the boiler
  8. Push the steam valve to full open
  9. Make sure the Boiler Target Temperature lever is set to 110
  10. (Optional) For singleplayer turn to the boiler room telegraph and enable the automatic telegraph key for easier engine operation
  11. Once the boiler has reached 100° the steam turbines will spool up and the ship is fully operational

Moving:
  1. Head into the wheelhouse
  2. Familiarize yourself with the instruments and controls
  3. Moving the telegraph will display your setting in the boiler room
  4. Other players can then operate the boilers steam valve at the boiler control panel, and the clutch lever and reverse toggle astern next to the generator
  5. (Optional) If the boiler room telegraph is set to automatic (see above) then all those operations will be automated so a single player can simply operate the engine states by using the telegraph in the bridge

Slow ahead results in 3.5-4 knots, half ahead is 10.5-11 knots and full ahead around 32 knots
Slow astern results in -1 knots, half astern is -2 knots and full astern is -4.5 knots

Water Turrets:
Can be operated by hand, you can enable the pump and aim the turret by using the lever for pitch and the arrow buttons for yaw.

Ballast Tanks:
You can drain/fill all 4 ballast tanks individually, for a quick balancing it is advisable to activate the auto-ballast button, this way ballast tanks will try to keep the waterline level.
Make sure to disable the system before moving.

Anchor:
A mag-all anchor can be found at the bow, starboardside.

Heater:
When cold, move into the kitchen and simply turn on the stove. (Don't try this at home)

Nice, thanks!

Good point.
Added a dedicated battery so the deck gate and levers can be operated when the ship is dark. A relay will engage and charge the gate battery as soon as the generator is running.

Glad you updated this. I'm finally using it again after a long, long time. Or, I would be, but I can't get to the deck. The only base I have coal at is the North Sawyer docks, and I can't make the jump from the deck. So I climb the ladder and try to open the gate using the throttle lever on the other side. But I can't, because the power's off. And I can't turn the power on until I can get access to it.

And now I've had to reload the ship too many times, and it's time to quit the game and restart it because of the damn memory leak...

Fixed it up, the devs deleting the boiler pressure node broke it.
Also updated the piping, less pumps needed and also less pump noise.

Make sure you put some more coal into the firebox. Should run fine otherwise.

hey the boat died in the ocean, high winds, ik it's a tug boat and it's not supposed to be there, but I followed the instructions and the boat just won't turn on, any known reason why?
