This ARMA 3 scenario contains strong language and scenes of horror, explicit violence and gore.

OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE

This scenario was tested on ultra high settings - for the BEST experience, you may have to lower your graphics to high or medium. Keep effects and music all the way up. Also, the beginning will lag for a little bit until all the animations and script triggers properly render. Not everything you see needs to be killed, sometimes Drongo's spooks can kill frames when killed, ironically enough. And finally, keep your modlist to the scenario's dependencies and keep your dynamic lights to at least Ultra High if you can!

STORY

Tunnel Fear - Shadows of the Underground takes place in 1998, or so we can assume. An underground military base has taken in a strange artifact from a foreign war that once belonged to the USSR. With it, the sanity of the private military Department of Defense contractors has dwindled. After some less than stellar incidents of violence, the staff of the facility - along with the DoD contractors, were sealed inside for their "own benefit". With a failing power grid, the halls of the base flicker and drone with fading light. Resorting to mere spotlights and camping lanterns, there is little that can be done about the inevitable. Insanity and superstition has begun to rule the tunnels. A certain phenomena, both physical and psychological, has come to be known as "Tunnel Fear".

Auditory hallucinations and visual apparitions alone do not explain what is going on in the pitch black tunnels. As the darkness envelopes more and more, men are driven mad. Mutilation, murder, cannibalism and occultism have taken place over common sense and sanity. The facility is littered with corpses and dark, shadow-like stalkers. While these entities do not seem to intend harm, their suffering is a terrible glimpse at the humanity that was once lost among your comrades.

You, a former Army veteran - had seen some of the worst that can be offered in this world. From Kuwait to Bosnia, you were wanting to see the world and be away from suffering for once. This 'cozy job' has turned into a living, wide awake nightmare. Trapped underground, you decide to leave.

In Tunnel Fear, the story is told through the environment, complex and often cryptic dialogue (sadly text based only), interesting but strange characters and also your own map.

Explore, investigate and escape. Perhaps complete an additional task while you are at it.

This is a horror scenario inspired by Metro 2033, the books and the games. As well as STALKER, FEAR, Doom 3 and Half Life 1.

WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?

This is a scenario that I put together in about 30 hours. It is very experimental and I owe a lot of it to my clear inspirations by PHANTOM ops and some of my favourite horror games or horror elements from games.

In a way, it is a bit of a parody and a tribute to things such as STALKER and Half Life, which will be clear in some of the aesthetic choices and scenes.

This is an atmosphere driven, psychological horror where the challenge is in escaping. That being said, using enhanced movement will break scripts and other things. It is heavily advised that you ONLY use the mods in the dependencies.

And yes, this map composition which was HEAVILY edited by myself also includes a lot of items from DLC. However, you should not be getting any annoying splash screens or anything like that, as it is strictly environmental. You will get an ad for the content in the loading screen, probably.

All in all, take your time, listen to the dialogue and READ YOUR "JOURNAL", aka the map.

This is a scenario that is hard to fail, but easy to give up. I can personally run through it in about 10 minutes but a first time play through can take about 20 to 30 minutes.

This is my first high effort scenario, I hope you all enjoy it and the painstaking process of setting up. I owe the Arma 3 community for its composition templates among other things.

BASIC TIPS
  • READ everything
  • Take your time, w+s to walk and lower your weapon with a double tap of left control or simply holster your weapon when not using it. If you ever get stuck, equip your pistol and try moving again. Vaulting, enhanced movement and hitting v will have disasterous consequences. Don't force yourself into places you aren't supposed to be, basically.
  • Some parts of the map are so dark you NEED a flashlight, so if you find yourself in pitch blackness, try and find a weapon with that item in particular

Sorry to hear, man. Unfortunately, not much I can do given that this scenario is composed of something like ten thousand some custom placed objects.

It works for some people really well (I've seen it live streamed by several people) and for other people it is unplayable. It runs a steady 60 on my end, making me wonder if its something tied to specific hardware or something else. It can also be some instances where triggers may inappropriately trigger or physics become wonky and simulate forcefully (because LOL arma) and genuinely, due to the fact that some of aspects of the scenario are dynamic, I'm unable to really troubleshoot one of the thousand possible instances.

Could not get more than 18 frames at any point, I can run 40+ player ops with 40+ FPS on ultra.
