A relic of an bygone era where the focus of the major powers wasn't perennial brushfire conflicts and proxy wars but the prospect of going double or nothing with each other, the Mastodon MBT has maintained its relevance with continuous updates. These updates have been laser focused on maintaining the only two appreciable advantages that the Mastodon has over more modern platforms such as the Rhino. Firepower, and armor performance. And according to the Mastodon's manufacturers, no other armor platform has yet caught up. Featuring front armor rated to over 1 m of RHA equivalent, modernized with replaceable ceramic overlay, and mounting a massive smoothbore cannon with coaxial machine gun, the Mastodon makes for a formidable adversary indeed. The more popular Rhino may be faster, more fuel efficient, faster firing, and more reliable, but at the end of the day, just about the only thing that can survive a follow-up shot from the Mastodon's main gun is another mastodon, and that fact alone is why it still sees service.
