Description
(UPDATE- This is version 1.1
I've removed the Leon Freeman portrait because I have included it in a new, seperate mod)

This is my first attempt at modding for MW5, so take it easy on a rookie!

Here is a custom male Mech Pilot mod I made for myself, (after several days of headaches trying learn the ToolKit) and thought maybe some of you might like it as well.

I really dislike the vanilla portraits- some are at least OK, but the thought of wearing a giant trashcan on your head as a neuro-helmet just seems ridiculous considering it's supposed to be the 31st Century. And to be blunt, the artwork was just a bit odd, and crappy in my humble opinion.
But enough of my overly biased complaints!

This mod borrows heavily from the Gears of War universe... (all relevant artistic credit to GOW!) I've always considered the Battletech Universe to be very gritty and rough, a bit messy and dirty, and in researching portrait sources, I found that Gears of War is a perfect match with just the look I was searching for. This also includes a new portrait for Leon Freeman.

Install in the usual way that you're all accustomed to, and hopefully, ENJOY!

NOTE: I'm currently working on a Custom Female Pilot mod, as well as a Custom Generic Pilot mod, so keep an eye out for them. Also, watch for my first Commander Portrait Mod

Great Mod, Thanks!
But may I chip in with some back story for the odd looking dustbin helmet?
1. The lore reason.
Part of the world building is that the technologies available to game characters, is hugely diverse in the level of it's quality.
Centuries of having factories/tech development centres blown up, lead to the loss of scientific and technical knowledge.
So some lucky, rich, successful pilots have slick light weight cool looking Neurohelmets, others like Lord Buckethead here... not so much.
2. Mechwarrior/ Battletech as a 30 year old pen and paper game reason.
One of the original source books for the pen and paper game From the 90's had this gem of an art piece in it :- https://s3.amazonaws.com/duxsite-battletech/3b0e2ce2f45568a1926678dec7fab5327511e5fe8b2ac6771eb4eec15d1f47bfu2902.gif

So I guess old bucket head is an Homage (or a nod an a wink) to the original 1990's Battletech sourcebook artwork, probably done on the cheap by a art school friend of the game designers.

Freebirth Toad I think I can do you a set of 3 of the Carmine brothers, (Ben, Anthony, and Clayton) in a few days, in 3 Individual Commander mods. Still working on my MechCommander 2 portrait set.

Rite on, Tessa! We've gotta counter all that usual internet negativity with some simple human respect and friendliness!

While I can appreciate your point of view regarding trash cans (LOL!), I certainly don't have any reason to agree with it.

I'm an old dude, and have been not only an avid fan of the Battletech Universe since the early 90s, (I've been a player of table top and, all those early video game versions, as well as a reader of many Battletech books) 😁I'm also quite familiar with SARNA, and have in fact been using it as a reference since it's inception. If you have opened this mod, you may even notice that several portraits I've included have come directly from SARNA.

We simply agree to disagree, and there's nothing wrong with that.

In closing, thank you very much for your encouragement and support at the end of your post, that means a lot to a noob like me, and as I learn more about the use of the Toolkit, I hope to create more mods in the future. 👍😁

Fun lore drop, in battletech the innersphere (at the start of mercs5) is coming out of a catastrophic age of war and sabotage where nearly all technology was lost to history bar the sparing few that survived in the deep cores of the great houses.

So in battletech, technology is actually bulky and industrial looking because technologically the innersphere has regressed massively since the fall of the starleague (the former government of the innersphere)

So the fact that its the 31st century has very little bearing on how the tech should look, as you play through Mercs5, the great houses discover and begin to distribute technology they find called "Lostec" which is technology lost because of the age of the succession wars.

I highly recommend looking up a website called Sarna.net for more great battletech lore, mech stats and general info vaults.

Anyway, thanks for uploading your mod and making the game all the more customizable :)
