But may I chip in with some back story for the odd looking dustbin helmet?
1. The lore reason.
Part of the world building is that the technologies available to game characters, is hugely diverse in the level of it's quality.
Centuries of having factories/tech development centres blown up, lead to the loss of scientific and technical knowledge.
So some lucky, rich, successful pilots have slick light weight cool looking Neurohelmets, others like Lord Buckethead here... not so much.
2. Mechwarrior/ Battletech as a 30 year old pen and paper game reason.
One of the original source books for the pen and paper game From the 90's had this gem of an art piece in it :- https://s3.amazonaws.com/duxsite-battletech/3b0e2ce2f45568a1926678dec7fab5327511e5fe8b2ac6771eb4eec15d1f47bfu2902.gif
So I guess old bucket head is an Homage (or a nod an a wink) to the original 1990's Battletech sourcebook artwork, probably done on the cheap by a art school friend of the game designers.
Admittedly surprising to hear that your and old fan, but I believe it. Anyways just pointing out that its nice to meet somebody friendly, its getting to be such a rare thing now. Ciao ^-^
I'm an old dude, and have been not only an avid fan of the Battletech Universe since the early 90s, (I've been a player of table top and, all those early video game versions, as well as a reader of many Battletech books) 😁I'm also quite familiar with SARNA, and have in fact been using it as a reference since it's inception. If you have opened this mod, you may even notice that several portraits I've included have come directly from SARNA.
We simply agree to disagree, and there's nothing wrong with that.
In closing, thank you very much for your encouragement and support at the end of your post, that means a lot to a noob like me, and as I learn more about the use of the Toolkit, I hope to create more mods in the future. 👍😁
So in battletech, technology is actually bulky and industrial looking because technologically the innersphere has regressed massively since the fall of the starleague (the former government of the innersphere)
So the fact that its the 31st century has very little bearing on how the tech should look, as you play through Mercs5, the great houses discover and begin to distribute technology they find called "Lostec" which is technology lost because of the age of the succession wars.
I highly recommend looking up a website called Sarna.net for more great battletech lore, mech stats and general info vaults.
Anyway, thanks for uploading your mod and making the game all the more customizable :)
