Uniforms of the German Democratic Republic: Over the Years
11 items
Description
This pack depicts the Uniforms of the Volkspolizei from 1952-(circa)1961. This is the first in a series of packs that will depict the Uniforms of the Volkspolizei throughout the Years.

The Deutsche Volkspolizei (German People's Police), or DVP, was the central policing agency of the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). It was founded effectively in 1945 by the Soviet Military Administration of Germany. It is the oldest "armed organ" of the DDR, having been founded before its creation in 1949. In the DVP's early years, it attempted to stray away from the use of any outwardly communist apparel, opting for the use of the Tri-Color Emblem on the caps and belts and the use of WW2-Style Shoulder-Boards for Officers. However, sometime between 1958 and 1961 the National Emblem of the DDR was added to the uniforms. The DVP would go on to have several uniform changes, primarily in the years 1949, 1952, 1961, 1967, 1983, and 1990.

This Pack Includes:
  • A Service Uniform for all rank groups
  • A Trench Coat Variant for all rank groups
  • Full Uniform Variation that was available at the time including shakos, summer hats, and gloves

Uniform Design is based off of hours of online research, however, some details may have been missed or overlooked as not every source is 100% reliable.

Okay, looked at the models and compared them to your image, I see what you mean. I'll add it to the list of inaccuracies to fix if we ever come back to modeling

Essentially, the Volkspolizei models created by Straße are wearing West German helmets.

Straße modeled the helmet based on the West German M54 design, which is historically incorrect!

There is no confusion here! The East German M54 was a completely different design.

It's quite simple: In 1954, there were two "M54" Stalhelm's. One created by East Germany, and one created by West Germany. These were two completely different helmet designs made in the same year.

I hope I cleared that up a bit!

Looking at your images...the models have the correct helmet. I'm confused as to what you're saying. The helmet model was made by hand by Strasse to properly conform with the East German M54. The models have the correct shallowness and everything, so maybe just some confusion. Thanks!

You've done an outstanding job creating these models for Gmod, kudos to you! However, I would like to point out that the models are wearing the incorrect M54 Stahlhelm.

There was surprisingly two M54 helmets during the Cold War! One by West Germany and the other by East Germany. The one by West Germany repeated the WW2 M35 design and was worn by the Bundesgrenzschutz (Border Police), while the East Germans created a more compact and squished design that was still similar in design, which was worn by the KVP and the Volkspolizei Bereitschaftspolizei (Riot Police).
