Hello, whoever you are.

Playing Killing Floor 2 for rather long time, you might have noticed some players carrying lots of cool and expensive weapon skins, — like, for example, Neon RGB ones. The most interesting case is when there is no some particular weapon skin on Steam Market and in-game Store at all, but a player has it somehow. Several skins just do not exist: for example, there is no Neon RGB skin for Kriss SMG — there is only a regular Neon one, implemented in lime-green color. Nevertheless, you still can meet people with such skins on public servers.

Before realizing what the trick was, I used to ask several players about the issue, but, unfortunately, no one rushed to share any knowledge with me, like it was something outstanding. Thus, I had to think on the possible solution myself. Not having any personality and ego issues, I see nothing bad in sharing interesting information about the game with other players and spreading it among the community, — unless it is some kind of offensive exploit, which can negatively affect the gameplay.

This guide is the re-post of the original one from 19/03/2020, which had been banned by Tripwire Interactive after several months. Looks like it is way easier for these developers to prevent spreading information about their games' weak points than simply to fix them and make everything work as it should. My appeal to the Steam Support ended with them stating that the guide was absolutely fine by Steam terms, but, still, «Unfortunately, we can not remove the ban, since it had been given by the game developer».

A bit later, they had also banned my sarcastic meme on this topic, which i have uploaded as Steam artwork, and me in Killing Floor 2 for one month at the same time. Re-uploading it under a different title solved the problem, though. Still, for me it is pretty hard to believe, how these developers can be this lazy, greedy and incompetent.

So...
Enjoy the guide, lads, — while it is still here.

Whoever is going to report this guide on Steam, is big gay and gonna die of AIDS, cancer and anal itch altogether. I warned you!
II. The Guide
Okay, so, lets take the «Neon RGB» type of weapon skins as an example, with which we are going to work further. In fact, you can do the same trick with literally any weapon skin you want.

At first, I must point it that this is not a 100% free thing. You have to own at least one skin of RGB kind to apply its texture to other weapons — otherwise everything else is pointless.

And YES, — your skins will be visible to other players in multiplayer games.

And NO, — you can not be banned for this in any way, since VAC in Killing Floor 2 does not work, if you did not know you own the skin and just apply its texture to a different weapon, what has nothing in common with cheating or hacking. Since the game's engine allows it, it is nothing more than its feature, which can be used just same as any other thing in the game.

So, the file directory we are going to work with is the following:

C: (might be any other drive though, but, commonly, it is C:) \ Users \ Y/N \ Documents \ My Games \ KillingFloor2 \ KFGame \ Config.

The file we need is called «KFGame.ini». Open this file and scroll to its very end. You will see the list of all your currently applied weapon skins with sections looking like this:

[KFGameContent.KFWeap_Weapon_Name]
SkinItemId=XXXX

Where «Weapon_Name» is, obviosly, the weapon's name, and «XXXX» is the ID of the weapon skin, consisting of four numbers. By the way, the full list of weapon names used in KF2's configuration files is available in this guide.

So, lets think you had bought Tommy Gun Neon RGB weapon skin. Personally I would recommend exactly it, since it is not awfully expensive and its texture looks rather fine with most weapons, — even with melee ones. This skin's ID is «6901».

So, if you want to apply this skin, for example, to Road Redeemer, you need to do the following in the stated above configuration file:

[KFGameContent.KFWeap_Blunt_ChainBat]
SkinItemId=6901

Ta da.

If you want to apply the same skin to, for example, MP5, you need to do the following:

[KFGameContent.KFWeap_SMG_MP5RAS]
SkinItemId=6901

Ta da.

As the last example, lets try Static Strikers:

[KFGameContent.KFWeap_Blunt_PowerGloves]
SkinItemId=6901

Ta da.

As you can notice, textures applied this way look significantly worse than the original Neon RGB ones made exactly for these particular weapons. Still, it is same RGB and it is completely free for you!

My personal tip is that I would recommend owning 3-5 different RGB skins — one pistol, one shotgun, one assault rifle, etc. Obviously, applying a skin from one pistol to another will not look as weird and ugly as if you apply a shotgun’s skin to a pistol, for example. Of course, if you want everything to look kind of awesome, you should experiment with different skins applied to different weapons. I will not lie: sometimes it looks ugly as hell. Sometimes — oppositely, it looks like the skin is «native». Like, for example:

Kriss SMG with MP7 SMG's RGB skin:

HZ12 Shotgun with MKb42 Assault Rifle's RGB skin:

1858 Revolvers with Magnum Revolvers' RGB skin:

9mm Pistol with HM-Tech Pistol's RGB skin:

If you want to get blind soon, you can also try equipping this to your Knife (also HM-Tech Pistol's RGB skin here):

Or even Welder (same):

Your fantasy is limitless here! Enjoy!

Thanks man! The Ion Thruster skins look great on melee weapons. The gold skins swapped on other larger weapons look like Honey/Chocolate/Caramel abominations but there is beauty in the chaos. One note, some skins won't load properly in 1st person but will appear proper to 3rd person. For instance the Batcat M79 skin applied to the Med SMG will contain splotches, but to everyone else it appears the skin is applied wholly to the gun and looks fine. Can't thank you enough. Personal favorites are Ion Thruster Blue (ID:7717) on the glock or Hemoclobber. Honorable mentions are the SP500 Blue Mint neon skin (ID:5160) on the AA12 and 9mm

I suggest backing up your guide by printing to PDF, like I did.

You crossed out the part about vac ban, this implies that you now CAN get vac banned for this. Is that true?
