TRN Islander 2 SAR – Model Number IS5 - Converted 2nd Generation Hull "Derwent" - 1st Generation Pure Diesel Drivetrain

I present the TRN Islander 2 SAR, the 5th product in my line of Islander boats, with a very different role to any of my previous Islander boats. This Islander is optimised for search and rescue, medical transport and patrol operations. Compared to the Islander 2 XT, the 2 SAR boasts a large medical bay, additional equipment stores, a water cannon, large spotlights, multiple emergency radio systems, a transponder locater, a siren, and a megaphone system, plus two crew beds. The Islander 2 SAR is a brilliant example of the incredible versatility of the Islander platform.

The Islander SAR is a small/medium search and rescue, medical transport and patrol boat with a long range and high endurance, designed to respond to a plethora of SAR operations. It is also capable of transporting 12 Stormlink passengers in its front cabin. As with my passenger Islanders, the Islander SAR can complete extremely long journeys, and is able to make multiple Sawyer/Arctic round trips on a single tank of fuel. It also copes incredibly well with extreme weather and waves thanks to its high air intakes, low propellors and rudder, and low centre of gravity. The Islander 2 SAR can handle anything you throw at it.

Advised top speed is 27km/h with a range of 370-400km. Cabin capacity is 12 seated, 7 crew, 16 medical beds, and 2 crew beds. More passengers/survivors can stand in the cabin if needed, and crew seats can be used for passengers/survivors. Rear deck capacity is 10 seated and 20 standing, weather permitting. Diesel fuel only.

Features:
- Water cannon for fighting fires
- Fire hose outlet systems, 1 front, 2 rear
- Custom siren system with microcontroller, flashing lights and sound
- Large medical bay with 16 medical beds, 4 crew seats and lots of equipment
- Crew rest bed bays
- Touchscreen transponder locator with sound (not my own microcontroller)
- Emergency radio systems, one alerts to the presence of an emergency signal on channel 99, the other radio can be used to communicate on any of 999 channels
- Illuminating side sign to tell other boats to use radio channel 99 in an emergency
- Megaphone system to broadcast instructions
- Two large spotlights to increase visibility in the dark, they can rotate around 360° for ultimate visibility
- Custom combined throttle and clutch, my best yet, taken from my TRN 100
- Custom depth alert system that sounds a buzzer on a timer
- Custom engine alert systems that sound a buzzer when certain conditions are met
- Custom automatic heating system that switches on below 12°C (can be switched off via a circuit breaker if not needed to save energy)
- Custom refuelling circuit and microcontroller to save space
- Custom position lights blinker system and microcontroller
- Custom winch systems with microcontroller
- Stats display (not my own)
- Touchscreen autopilot/navigation display with keyboard to enter exact waypoints (not my own)
- Touchscreen radio with 999 possible channels (not my own)
- Water depth display (not my own)
- Well positioned cabin lighting with some guidance floor lights
- Bilge pump system
- Custom winch systems that can be used to tow other boats
- Curved cabin windows allow for incredible visibility, even right upwards into the sky
- Lots of rope anchors and ropes allow for the boat to be tied up in whatever way is most convenient
- Rear facing camera with wide angle display for improved visibility
- Stormlink compatible
- Emergency roof hatches
- Spacious cabin with seats, crew rest bays, functional bathroom, large medical bay, and many equipment stores
- Intelligent hull design to give as much usable cabin and deck space as possible
- Custom branding with TRN and Islander logos and mural, plus plates near the captains seat
- Bathroom with working tap, shower and mirror

Instructions:
- Enter the cabin, you may need to crouch. Walk through the medical bay and open the cockpit/passenger cabin door
- Walk over to the left dashboard at the front and switch on “Electrical Systems”
- When you wish to turn the engines on, ensure that the “Engine Ready” lockable button is on, then turn the starter
- When you wish to move away, enter the captains seat and either use the throttle lever, or your 3 and 4 keys to control the combined throttle/clutch. Simply push forwards or hold 4 to accelerate
- Please note, if you accelerate too quickly right after starting the engine it may stop as a safety measure. Simply start it again and this will cancel the safety stop
- To turn off the engine either turn off the “Engine Ready” button, or the “Electrical Systems”
- To use the water cannon, megaphone and spotlight controls, sit in the left hand crew chair
- If the front indicator lights go green, then a signal has been detected on emergency channel 99

To refuel, walk onto the roof of the main cabin, then carefully move down onto the bow of the boat. You will then see a small orange refuelling panel and a spare hose. Take the hose and connect it to your fuel source, and then back to the Islander, then flick the breaker to begin refuelling. When the fuel level stops rising, refuelling is done.

Thanks to the generators and solar panels, the batteries will charge during normal use. If they need to be charged quickly, bring the throttle to around 0.1 and power will be passed mainly to the generators. If sat at a dock, you can also use the front charging connector, but this is unlikely to ever be needed.

I wanted to prove the versatility and capability of my Islander platform with the next TRN Islander boat, so I decided to convert the passenger Islander 2 XT into an extremely capable, high-endurance search and rescue, medical transport and patrol boat. I chose the Islander 2 XT as it was the most lightweight and popular Islander boat so far, so would provide the most available weight for SAR equipment.

Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you enjoy my creation! Feel free to also check out my TRN Islander Series collection, which includes all my previous and future Islander boats.
