M/V Jean Laborde

Launched on July 12, 1952 at Chantiers de la Gironde in Bordeaux. Jean Laborde was the last of four sister ships built for Messaging Maritime. She was a mixed passenger and cargo vessel owned by Messaging Maritime from 1952 to 1970, then being sold. In 1991, drastically changed from its original configuration to a cruise ship, now under the name of Oceanos, sank as her sea chest was breached causing uncontrolled flooding in the generator room. At the time the crew was working on the sewage ventilation pipe, a pipe to vent air from the sewage tank, one compartment over. The water flooded into the sewage tank via the opened pipe the crew had been clearing moments earlier. Water flooded into the sewage tank and up pipes and into cabins via drains in the bathrooms. The ship's senior crew abandoned the vessel without issuing a full mayday and evacuation. The captain, Yiannis Avranas, was one of the first to be airlifted off the ship. No one died in the sinking and it is hailed as the world's greatest air to sea rescue.




Head to the bridge, activate the two buttons on the telegraph labeled “Left Engine Start Up Request” and “Right Engine Start Up Request”, then move up the two throttles. If you are playing with another player who is located in the engine room, you can activate the “Multiplayer Mode” key in the center of the telegraph.


Head to the generator room, located forward of the engine room. Find the sea chest, located next to the engine room water tight door. Activate the “Valve (Unlock Scuttle)” key. Then click the “Sea Chest Panel (Scuttle)” button.

Spawn Location: Like most large builds this vessel spawns at the Custom Base Oil Rig.

Infinite Electricity: Not required for this build.

Buoyancy: Yes, the ship does ride high out of the water, however, this was intended. When we built the ship it did once have a buoyancy issue, this was resolved however. Also the ship was designed to ride high out of the water as seen in this photo.



Vehicle Version: Another common question we receive is can it be made a vehicle version? No, the ship is divided up into two sections and must be spawned using a mission.
