BNSF AC44C4M No. 600

Description
(Requested by Pacific Railfan).

BNSF 600 was built by General Electric in 1994, originally as a C44-9W for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. She was inherited by BNSF upon its creation in 1995. Starting in 2015, BNSF sent 20 of their ex-ATSF Dash 9s - including number 600 - to General Electric for rebuilding.

The rebuilt engines are designated as AC44C4M, and they feature AC traction motors (they originally had DC motors), only four powered axles instead of six and the same traction / control systems as GE’s off-the-shelf ES44C4 and ET44C4 locomotives.

After her rebuild, BNSF 600 was repainted in the H4 livery, and put back into service. She is still going strong today at 27 years old.
