[BNW] Alamo Wonder

In 1 collection by Kramer
Kramer's Civ 5 Components

Description
Update v2 Changes: Reduced defensive bonus, and wonder now provides only 1 free Armory. This version should work with saves that use v1, but let me know if it doesn't. This will be the last update until I get my hands on that 3D model and get it working, which will probably be the last update altogether.

This mod adds the Alamo as a World Wonder, requires the Brave New World expansion pack, and features voice acting by Charlatanalley!

Alamo
Required Tech: Rifling
Production Cost: 750
+2 Culture
+6 Defense
Effects: Provides a free Armory in city in which it is built. Land-based melee and infantry units receive the Remember The Alamo! promotion, which can force enemy units to retreat.
Quote: "You will remember this battle! Each minute, each second, until the day that you die! But that is for tomorrow, gentlemen. For today, Remember The Alamo!" -Sam Houston

The Alamo Mission, often known simply as "The Alamo", is a Catholic mission and fortress located in San Antonio, Texas, and was the site of the 1836 Battle of the Alamo. Initially built by the Spanish Empire in 1744 to educate local native americans after their conversion to Christianity, the mission was secularized and abandoned in 1793. Ten years later, it became a makeshift fortress occupied by Mexican soldiers, who held the fort until December 1835, when it was surrendered to the Texan army. Texan General Sam Houston believed the Texans did not have the manpower to hold the fort and ordered Colonel James Bowie to destroy it. Bowie chose to disregard those orders and instead worked with Colonel James C. Neill to fortify the mission.

On February 23, 1836 Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna led a large force of Mexican soldiers into San Antonio de Bexar and promptly initiated a siege. The siege ended on March 6, when the Mexican army attacked the Alamo; by the end of the Battle of the Alamo all, or almost all, of the defenders were killed. At the Battle of San Jacinto, Sam Houston rallied his army in a surprise attack against the Mexican army with cries to not forget the tragedies at the Alamo, or of the Goliad massacre. The Mexican army was routed in 18 minutes, Santa Anna was wounded, and the revolution was won. Today, the Alamo still operates as a museum in downtown San Antonio, and is a vital entity in Texan history and culture.

If the mod doesn't properly download, or does not show up in-game, you may download it manually here: Civfanatics[forums.civfanatics.com]. You then extract it to Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization V/MODS, though that path may differ depending on your platform.

Special Thanks/Credits[/i]
Charlatan Alley: Voice Acting for the wonder quote!

Note: the Remember The Alamo! promotion requires an ability that was added in Brave New World (the Winged Hussar's heavy charge), and will not function properly without that expansion.

Secondly, in this mod the Alamo is represented perfectly. After the Battle of the Alamo, Texan troops became VERY patriotic about their brethren's valiant defense there. Any mention of the Alamo in battle would make soldiers strive to achieve a feat of equal valiance.

Honestly the defense bonus could be lowered in return for culture. For me the Alamo is the heart and soul of Texan history and pride.
Maybe 4 Defense and 6 Culture

Im reading some of these comments and jesus christ, why do people judge us so much?

Firstly, of all the states that joined the CSA, Texas was one of the most conflicted when making this descision. Most Texans are either recent immigrants from Mexico or primarily German and Irish immigrants who came here awhile ago due to pressure from the Mexican government. Cultures blended and the Tejanos decided that they are now different form Mexico, so they declared independance. In Texas not alot of rascism existed in the more settled areas (Coastal Plains in particular). While is the more country-like areas, slaves were needed to do all the farm work. All of Texas had a strong Southern and independant identity.

When I was little, my parents took me to the Alamo. But I was so young I have no memories of that trip. So, I don't remember the Alamo.

Yes, I stole it from Christine.
