Description
Have you ever gotten annoyed at the fact that the monkey character Wilbur can only befriend one type of monkey, the shipwrecked prime apes. This mod allows Wilbur to befriend the ordinary splumonkeys and hamlet spider monkeys. Because of their large size, Wilbur can also ride spider monkeys (textures are a little buggy). Also adds the ability to craft splumonkey pods, and an item to summon a spider monkey because they grow in herds. Some small changes were also made to nightmare monkeys, preventing befriended monkeys from becoming them, and adding a new structure that turns nightmare monkeys to normal monkeys in a radius.

Features:
- Splumonkeys can now be befriended by all characters.
- Splumonkeys no longer steal items from Wilbur
- Spider monkeys are no longer aggressive to Wilbur
- Spider monkeys no longer drain Wilbur's sanity
- Spider monkeys can be befriended by Wilbur
- Spider monkeys can be ridden by Wilbur
- Splumonkey pods can now be crafted
- Befriended monkeys will not become nightmares during the nightmare phase
- Splumonkeys can pick plants for you like primeapes
- Splumonkeys and primeapes now can play with a silly monkey ball together
- The steal-proof cork barrels work on monkeys
- Aporkalypse now can also turn monkeys into shadow monkeys like the nightmare phase does
- Wilbur has a new shadow form

Shadow Wilbur:
- Transforms during nightmare phase or aporkalypse, or eat a hairy banana to transform for 30 seconds
- Turns back to normal after the above events end, or if he eats a gold banana
- Instantly starts running
- Is not targeted by shadow creatures (includes shadow monkeys and nightmares)
- Due to not being targeted by shadow monkeys, you can befriend them in shadow form
- Has a cool new texture (not really, its just his normal texture with the color set to zero)
- Has night vision
- Gets a 1.25x damage multiplier
- Passive sanity drain
- Poison immunity, allowing easy gas rainforest navigation

New Items:
- Spider monkey horn: Summons a spider monkey (fun fact: spider monkeys actually live in herds, the nests are just for decoration. That means one spider monkey can soon become several.)
- Statue of Monkey-kind: A pillar of bananas that prevents nearby monkeys from turning into nightmare monkeys, or turns nearby nightmare monkeys back to normal.
- Gold Banana: Turns you back into normal form if in shadow form.
- Hairy Banana: Turns you into shadow form for 30 seconds and that time increases with each hairy banana eaten, but eating it lowers your health and sanity.

Recipes: (only craftable by Wilbur)
- Splumonkey pod: 8 logs, 6 bananas, 4 manure
- Spider monkey horn: 4 bananas, 12 silk, 16 beard hair
- Statue of Monkey-kind: 4 thulecite, 6 bananas, 1 yellow gem
- Gold Banana: 1 Banana, 1 Gold Nugget
- Hairy Banana: 1 Banana, 1 Monster Meat, 6 Beard Hair

Planned Features:
- Add a config option for Webber to be able to befriend spider monkeys and make the ride text stop appearing on non-befriended spider monkeys
- Not a plan for this mod, but I am working on a several shipwrecked and hamlet mods that add a bunch of random stuff

Make sure to post any bugs you find in the comments, I do read them, and I will stop being lazy if a bug is on the loose.

Nah, I am still feeling lazy, sorry. Maybe in the next 2 to 4 years?

Maybe I'll try raising the priority a bitbin my schedule, the three week deadline may be more accurate if I remember

I just looked at the comments below, its been 2 years since I promised to make riding spider monkeys better.

Yep, sorry I just got lazy. I could wasily add more stuff to make it better, but I rely on very fickle motivation to do stuff. I'll probably update this anywhere from in 3 weeks to 13 years, so don't you worry, and update will come eventually probably maybe.

Hi! I've tried your mod and it's pretty good. I like it and feel like it makes Wilbur a more interesting and flexible character in the late game. There are a couple of "bugs," like the Splumonkeys trying to hurt Wilbur in his shadow form, though I guess that could be justified by saying they're crazy or something. The only thing I feel deserves a change is the mechanics with the Spidermonkeys. I like the idea, like a personal Beefalo for Wilbur, although they're very slow and not that different from taming a Beefalo. Something like a combo attack or a charge attack (like Woody's Mooseman transformation in DST) would be great, or some new ability, like ranged attacks with webs as ammunition. Likewise, I really like your mod, hopefully you'll make some other changes someday. Cheers! :DSTpigman:

Probably

Also btw, can you make Spider Monkey riding more useful in your next mod?(Because its way slower than Wilbur).
Probably make it give more damage.

Oh, did not know that. I made it so that they don't attack when Wilbur is shadow, but did not realize they are neutral to non-shadow monkeys (because under normal conditions a shadow and non-shadow monkey should never co-exist). I am currently thinking about re-coding this mod to use post-init coding instead of direct overwrite coding and also adding config options, so I will keep this in mind when working. (if I ever get enough motivation to actually work)

Hi! After a year or whatever I found another problem. Why do shadow Splumonkeys/Primeapes Attack Wilbur but not there own kind in normal form? I tested it...
TerraSpiderFan  [author] 7 Jan, 2023 @ 8:30am
I made standing near the monkey statue not do anything because I thought it might be inconvient, but it shouldn't be too hard to fix or just add a config option to enable or disable it. I think I may know why the first problem occurs and that is unintentional and will be removed. The problem is I started playing subnautica and I got addicted to it, so the next update might take a while.
