The edge line of the carriageway is used to indicate the edge of the motor vehicle lane or to divide the boundary between the motor vehicle lane and the non-motor vehicle lane. When used to demarcate the boundary between motor vehicle lanes and non-motor vehicle lanes, it can also be referred to as the machine non-boundary line.
The solid white line at the edge of the roadway is used to indicate the edge of the roadway or the boundary of the machine where vehicles are prohibited from crossing. For two-way four-lane and above roads, except for entrances and exits, intersections, and special road sections where on-street parking is allowed, a white solid line at the edge of the roadway should be set on the edge of all traffic lanes. Two-way three-lane roads and below are not required, but in the following cases A solid white line should be drawn on the edge of the carriageway:
a) The narrow bridge of the road and its upstream and downstream sections;
b) The curve section and its upstream and downstream sections using the road design limit index;
c) The road section where the traffic flow merges or diverges;
d) The road section where the road width changes;
e) The road section where the roadside obstacle is closer to the carriageway;
f) Road sections that often have heavy fog and other weather affecting safe driving;
g) Mixed traffic sections with more non-motor vehicles or pedestrians.
