There is no defense prep timer. The button at the top right ends your defense phase and immediately starts the attack.
Also, be careful with AT-TE's, TX-130's, and UT-AT's. For what ever reason, when they touch something they cant break like a big rock, the units inside fall out and die. That is something with GAW, not with this mission.
