OOOOOOOhhh...Okay. So it's like a shaped charge effect; you stab someone, and then an explosion goes off. There was a kind of 'boomstick' that was like this...Somewhere.

I wasn't critiquing though! LOVE the model and design, all the kudos for your work! ^.^

Please, please, please look into the gunblade setting in Final Fantasy 8.
A gunblade is not a weapon for firing bullets.

Love the blade, love the gun. GUNBLADE! \o/

My only critique about 'realism' is that indeed, unless this was a straight edge, the barrel wouldn't work. The easier fix would just be to offset the main barrel to fire from a cylinder along the side of the blade instead of directly on top of the blade. I think that'd look cool.

But all in all, GUNBLADE! \o/
