Description
Welcome to OBO, the Overall Balance Overhaul, pronounced "oboe" (yes, like the instrument).

OBO is itself split up into many smaller mods to make finding, using, mixing and matching easier for users, and to make updating them easier on my end. Please read the main collection page for more info, as this description will only cover this submod specifically.

This is the Autoshotgun rebalance mod, which makes some needed changes to balance this weapon.


RATIONALE:
The idea of an automatic shotgun in Serious Sam is actually pretty awesome, but Croteam's implementation was a balance nightmare. To give you an idea, the vanilla minigun dealt 200DPS. This weapon? It dealt 350, and could be dual wielded without penalty. Yes, it was less accurate than the minigun and it had to reload after 20 shots, but this was still as over-the-top as it gets. I wanted to make the weapon more fair so as not to outshine the rest of the arsenal, but I also didn't want to take away the fun of it either.

Now, I've kept some of the extreme DPS, but with other, more subtle downsides. It deals half the damage per pellet of my OBO Single & Double Shotguns (but it still runs on a different ammo, so it's all good), but still has several times the fire rate. It's spread has been rebalanced to be round and not flat like the Single Shotgun anymore, and its duel wield spread is significantly less accurate, but still useable. Fire rate has been slowed from 5rps to 3.5rps, which is probably the most painful change, but I find it better than the alternative, which would be to have to nerf the damage. Reload speed is a bit slower too. All of these changes are there to "chip away" at the weapon's other stats to make it more fair, with strengths and weaknesses. On the other hand, I gave it a full extra magazine to make binging with it a bit more substantial.

Oh, and this is also the first weapon (besides the FRPCL) that comes with a weapon slot change! Basically, I was tired of having to switch to the second row of the number 7 slot just to get this bad boy out, so I put it where it seems to fit better; in the third row of the shotgun slots. It may look a bit weird to have a third row, but I've used tons of custom weapons before, so it doesn't look odd to me. It makes switching between the Single & Double Shotguns a little trickier, and you may have to relearn some muscle memory, but I feel the upsides heavily outweigh the downsides, at least for now. I may change it in future, but there's only so many slots available.
