The Steamer "Lancashire" was launched on the 7th of April 1873, after the C.S.R. & M.S.C. required a ferry for the Sawyer Channel route.

Being the Central Sawyer Railroad & Midlands Shipping Company's first vessel, her maiden voyage was quickly assembled, offering services from the North Harbour to Basil Bay and the Fishing Village. On May 17th, 1873, she drew away from the docks carrying 100 souls. The voyage was a massive success, being the first steppingstone to the C.S.R. & M.S.C.'s prosperity in the decades to come.

On an early morning voyage on the 25th of June 1904, she recovered debris from the ill-fated S.S. Snowdrop. Only after her docking in North Harbour did her crew find out about the Snowdrop disaster, one that would become the worst in the history of the Sawyer Channel until the sinking of the S.M.S. " Cambridge " in 1916.

On October 15th, 1908, she was considered far too outdated to continue service and was brought to a breakers yard and scrapped. This would be the end of her 35 year long career.
