Description
Image Tool — an extension that allows you to use any image from the internet, any way you want.

Image tool have a lot of usage, let it be just having fun with friends on local server, decorating to your building, referencing in the artwork, looking up for a scheme, or being used on the RolePlay servers.


Disclaimer
Be aware, that this addon allow to use any image. We are not responsible for any cases of explicit, NSFW, illegal or "dangerous" content uploaded on your server. Use at your own risk!

If you’re planning to use Image Tool on your RolePlay server, we’re strictly recommend this to be locked and being used only by your Server Administration. In other cases, is it best if used alone on in the group of trusted people.


Features
  • Easy to use.
  • Image preview on sight, before you place it.
  • You can change length, height, scale and brightness of the image.
  • No restrictions on where to place your image, it can be anything.
  • Placed images are saved after server restart. This works on local servers too.
  • Images aren't entities. They're visible only by player, not the server.
  • Delete old images in any order, just by pressing RMB on them.
  • Personal option to change image display distance.
  • JPG/PNG are only whitelisted formats.


Instruction to use
We recommend you to use Imgur and Discord URLs to place your images.
First of all, make sure you're subscribed to this addon and it is enabled in game.

  1. Press Q button(or whatever your bind is), then find "Asterion Tools" section of the tool gun menu and press on Image Tool
  2. Copy and paste URL of the desired image in the URL field. Only JPG/PNG formats are supported.
  3. Use settings to adjust image as you want.
  4. Aim on the surface and press LMB to place your image. You're amazing!


Plans for the future updates
- Image presets or gallery, to re-use previously used images without repasting URL.
- More options.
- URL Whitelist (maybe?)


Clean up
The Images are cached inside your GMod folder — clean up is manual, keep that in mind.

To perform a clean up, head to <GarrysMod\garrysmod\data\imagetool> and delete everything you don’t need.

Images are being saved on maps and the servers. Looking up in the map file, it might be cache from a few different servers using the same map.

Are there plans to add the ability to upload an image not by URL address, but by addon directory with textures/sprites (for example materials/addon/image.png)? :byakuya_DGR:

i uploaded a picture to imgur, put it in the url, and it only continues to load the loading placeholder, is this a problem on my end or am i doing something wrong?

It should show images for the entire playerbase. However, some image hosting sites might not be working for certain people because of their region, restrictions, etc.

Does this show to the entire playerbase or just a few people? I cant really tell, as some people say its a "missing texture" when they join others dont, so how do i fix that if it shows to the entire playerbase

If someone spams a lot of images in a certain area (especially a spawn area) it could cause the "overflowed reliable channel" disconnect error. I recommend using https://wiki.facepunch.com/gmod/Global.RecipientFilter for net messages and make them unreliable.

to delete you need to use command imagetool_deleteall i think
