根据1958年解放战争收官之战的经验与教训，003型战列舰为一型以搭载巨大舰炮为特色，应对未来对手巨舰为需求建造的新型战列舰。该舰吨位144000吨，航速39节，搭载508mm联装主炮5座，侧舷防护457mm，水平防护250mm。舷号170，舰名兰州。

然而该舰庞大的主炮导致该舰长度很大，被水兵们称作“面条舰”。也因为该舰各型火炮以联装为主（相较于之前型号的多联装），使得该舰另有绰号为“丑二哥”。

Built with the lessons learnt from the ending battle of Liberation War in 1958 in mind. Type 003 is a battleship carrying huge artillery coping with future giant enemy ships.

She has a tonnage of 144000 tonnes, sailing at a maximum speed of 39 kt. Her armament consists of 5 double gun turrets of 508mm cannon. Armor belt: 457mm, deck armor: 250mm. Pennant Number: 170, namesake: Lanzhou, the city.

The huge main guns carried elongates the ship greatly to an extent that sailors called her "Noodle Vessel". Her countless double gun turrets (comparing to those tripple or quadruple on previous types) also earns her a name of "the ugly second brother".
