The Proto is a race of extremely advanced and sentient artificial intelligence. Unlike most AI factions, their base code are configured to have limited information syncing and sharing, thus each individual machine can have unique memories and personalities. They are considered one of the most "living" AI race known in the galaxy.

Their ships are usually made with technology far beyond most organic species' tech tree. Most ships generates energy and shield that far outclass other ships of similar size. Relying heavily on their shields, most of their ships are not armored or very lightly armored to offer superior maneuverability. They are best known for exporting said powerful ships to other faction's military and even commercially for smaller ships.
