Lynx Advanced Suspension ATV

Description
Design Note Ramblings:

I built this ATV as a demonstrator for my HomeBrew'ed suspension script I'm working on. I'm nobody's coder. But I really liked the results. I also had a lot of fun driving this buggy up and down some mountains in survival. So I thought I would share what I have.

It makes a nice "starter" vehicle when you first getting going on a planet in survival. It doesn't really use many components to build. So why not look good while you cruise the hills for resources? Just replace the reactor with another battery if you don't have parts handy yet.

The ATV comes in desert paint. I also quickly repainted it camouflage green for wooded areas in one picture. In other pics, you'll see the ATV without the spare tire and without the rack of spotlights. Snip, snip and you can lose that light bar and a few hundred extra kgs of dead weight. It also lowers the center of gravity if you remove that stuff. So if you're operating in some VERY hilly areas, you just might want to make yourself a convertible.

There's one small reactor at the back. But you don't need the reactor to operate or charge the rover. Simply use the small merge block at the back. You'll notice a picture of two examples of external recharging solutions. A minor inconvenience for not having to put a big yellow donut on the back.

Finally, there are two magnetic plates on the bottom for securing the ATV to the ground OR locking it in place when being stored as cargo aboard a ship. Definitely a QOL idea for any small rover.

-------------------------------

The Menu:

In the first slot of the toolbar, 1-1, 1-2, and 1-3, are three programmable block icons.
  • 1-1 Scrolls Menu Up
  • 1-2 Scrolls Menu Down
  • 1-3 Selects the Preset

Presets:

  • 01 - Rock Climb Low - All Wheel Drive: for climbing steep hills/mountains, especially craggy ground.
  • 02 - Rock Climb High - All Wheel Drive: good for steep grades that are mostly flat.
  • 10 - 2x4 RWD - Power to only back wheels. Great for flat or rolling hills.
  • 20 - Lake Ice Low - Front Wheel Drive: Power to only front wheels. Best performance on frozen lakes.
  • 21 - Lake Ice High - Front Wheel Drive: Same as above but less friction. Start out in 20 then shift to 21 for best performance.
  • 97 - Max Everything - All settings all buffed up. Maybe you'll need it for something. So it's there.
  • 98 - Portage: When you need to park this thing and don't feel like slamming
into other stuff. Great for loading onto cargo ships.
  • 99 - Stowage: Lifts the wheels up and puts the frame on the deck.
Makes life much easier when securing the ATV as cargo. If you want to
use the magnetic plates on the bottom. Use this setting to get them in
    locking distance.

Changing Presets:

Find the HomeBrew Programmable block in the K menu. Scroll down to the "Arguments" box. In that box you'll have to type in what you want the script to do. Type in a command, then a colon, then a name of a preset.

Example: You've got your suspension the way you like it, and now you want to add "MySuperPreset" to the list of presets. Enter this into the Argument Field new:MySuperPreset

Commands:

  • new:MySuperPreset - creates new preset.
  • delete:MySuperPreset - deletes preset with that name.
  • rename:MySuperPreset:MyMediocrePreset - changes the name of the preset to the second name
  • apply:MySuperPreset - loads the preset immediately without having to use the menu (handy when you can't use the cockpit.

Useful Info:

- Use CTRL+ALT+C, CTRL+ALT+V, CTRL+ALT+C to copy, cut, and paste the ENTIRE vehicle in creative mode if you want the mag'ed on spare-tire to be included. I know someone will ask. :)

- In practice, I like setting my suspension, then scrolling to the next likely suspension and leaving the selector there. This is very helpful when doing things like crawling over rocks and you might want to rapidly change to a different setting.

- After you have selected a preset, you are locked out of the menu for a few seconds as the script applies your changes. This is done for safety reasons.

- Leaving a thumbs-up, subscribing, positive ratings, and checking out my other recent vehicles makes my day.
