CIWL U series coaches

Introduced to replace the Lx and S models, this model was a modernization of the Y series ordered by the CIWL since late 50s, adapting the coach for a more universal use. Adding new interiors and replacing the original Y-2 bogies by Minden-Deutz bogies, increasing the top speed to 140km/h. First introduced for services on France, Belgium and Italy. After 1971 most of the U coaches were sold to state companies, being most of them owned by the French SNCF and the italian FS. These coaches remain in use untill late 90s, being used on services around all Europe.
