A car nerf mod

Description
Zombies think that there's a survivor inside the engine, so they will attack it until it breaks a bit and the engine stalls, at which point the zombies assume that there is no longer a survivor inside the engine and leave it alone.


An invisible object is created in front of the car, which zombies will break. once the object is destroyed, the car takes damage and the engine stops.
Current bugs: Sometimes zombies don't attack the invisible object immediately.


This was created because I sometimes abandon cars and the zombies just stand next to the cars until the engine runs out of gas. I think if I was a zombie, I would think there's a survivor inside the engine.

how long a single zombie takes to destroy an engine? I like the idea but car engines are super tough

Is it possible to make sandbox config for this mod? Would be cool if we could set it up so zombies attack engine even with player inside the car.

nice mod man, i have a server and cars are always misused, they never "lock", they make a joke of the challenge, another mechanic that breaks the game a lot is being able to beat up zombies by keeping the window down, could you tell me if there is a way to eliminate this possibility? (Having certainly studied the code involving cars maybe you can tell me if this is a feasible thing)

Yes, sorry I misread the comment XDDD

The initial idea was to have multiple places to be attacked for a car, one of them being the engine, all parts causing damage to different parts of the car.
But only attacks on the engine make the car stall.

I am doing iterations over things I do.
1. Fast dirty implementation
2. Make it work
3. Fix bugs
4. Rewrite / advanced implementation
5. Fix bugs
6. Optimize

I will come back to this(and other things) at a later date and add options and more things!

Huh? Oh, yes, I'm aware how that functions. I mean that you could place the object at the rear of the vehicle instead of the front as an alternative option - but as I said that may be moot with how the game's designed right now, as I'm not sure if zombies attacking the rear of the vehicle would effect the engine. I guess it could lead to damaging the back wheels.

I think most cars make more sound at the engine when sitting still on idle RPM

No, this mod checks if a car is empty after a player exits the car.
If the car is empty, and the engine is running....
The mod creates a invisible-thumpable object at the engine of the car.
Thumpable objects are attacked by zombies.
If the zombies destroy the invisible object, the car takes damage and the engine stalls.

If the engine stops working or a player enters the driver seat, the invisible object is removed.

Perhaps have an entity at the back of the car where the exhaust is? Actually, that may be where more sound is produced from - but I get this mod is about having something that matches the gameplay car damage model.
