Description
My largest ship so far! (Well, she only marginally beats the Stena Unity). I have put a lot of work into this, and tried to learn from most of the mistakes I made with the Unity's design. Whilst taking screenshots, I decided to take a look at said predecessor and, well, I was amazed at how much I've come on since then. However, this description isn't for sentimentality, so I ought to get to the more useful information. This ship was built for the Abbot First Irish sea challenge.

STATISTICS
Top Speed: 19.5 knots
Propulsion: Triple electric screw
Engines: 5 generators
Vehicle Capacity: 40 small cars (many of these can be swapped out for heavy vehicles)
Range: I don't know
Passenger capacity: 76
Port of Registry: Douglas, Isle of Man (Crown Dependency)

THE SHIP IS A FREIGHTER, AND IS DESIGNED TO CARRY TALL LORRIES IN THE MIDDLE LANE

HISTORY
In 1996, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, the oldest continually operating maritime company in the world, ordered two similar RoRo freight vessels, the Ben My Chree (Manx for Girl Of My Heart) and Ree Vannin (King of Mann). The crucial difference would lie in size- the Ben My Chree would be large enough to operate the already well established "Lifeline" service from Heysham, England, to Douglas; whereas the Ree Vannin would be considerably smaller and take on a new route from Douglas to Belfast, Northern Ireland. Both ships, however, would be designed with the passenger in mind, as they would allow limited numbers of non-freight travellers per journey. The vessels would be drawn and constructed by Dutch shipyard van der Giessen de Noord, with the Ben My Chree being launched first in 1997, followed by Ree Vannin in 1998. Unfortunately, the Belfast route was ill fated, with demand failing to develop and by 2003 it was decided to cut the route, and sell the Ree Vannin. Eventually a buyer was found in the Finnish Viking Line, but they did not retain the ship for long, with it being sold further to Indonesian ferry operator ASDP. In 2011, she suffered a catastrophic engine failure, which resulted in an explosion below the water line, and she sunk within an hour. A sad end to a troubled vessel.

Indeed, an underappreciated company if you ask me, and they have a stunning livery.

Yeah I've been wanting to, but I've been a bit lacking in motivation recently. If I can manage to pull myself together I'll definitely work on another
