This mod is a collaborative work between me and E3245, who's awesome modeling and texture work made this mod possible. Some of the Animations are from Enemy Unknown, Others were done by Yours Truly. All assets in this mod are free for use in other mods, just please give credit due where it is due, and I hope you all enjoy this mod.

The Return of The Ethereals

The Ethereals have returned as a rare boss enemy at high forcelevels, intended to be a challenge for players who have reached the end game.

What They Do

The overall mechanics of the Ethereals are designed to be similar to those of the Long War Ethereals, but with some differences to make things more a bit more challenging in XCOM 2, given the higher availability of damage output.

Aside from the Classic mechanic of Returning Fire against missed shots, their abilities include Mind Control, Null Lances, Dimensional Rifts, and more! But not a whole lot more.

What They Don't Do

Be Merciful to your soldiers or your campaign. Take actions upon being damaged. Provide Epic Techs and Loot, this is purely an enemy mod. Come in very scary groups of Ethereals, the image is just them posing menacingly for a photoshoot. Share their ADVENT Burgers.

A Precautionary Notice

The Ethereals, in the base state of this mod, are balanced on the assumption that you are running a heavily modded campaign, and are intended to be a challenge in the Endgame under the assumption that you are playing a campaign that has been heavily modded. If you are playing a campaign that is scant on XCOM-friendly mods, it may be prudent to adjust the Force Level requirement so that they're less likely to spawn in before you finish your plasma tier weaponry research. Or possibly to adjust their HP value, depending on what all mods you're running.

Extension Mod

There is now an Extension mod, which adds an Ethereal Autopsy + Carcasses + an Item that can be built using them.

Compatibility Talk

Nothing that I'm aware of that's incompatible. Now works with Long War of The Chosen!

What is the proper name of the deflection perk the Elders have? I want to give it to warlock, since he is practically their disciple, fitting to give him a few psionic perks to distinguish from the others.

If you've set up your .ini right then try clearing your user config. files. Also, I think, that missions are set-up by the game before they're shown on the geoscape. So it could be one that was created at the start of the month when you made the edit.

@Dragon32 I did that yet they still started to appear on FL 16. Ive set up my ini for them to appear only starting FL 19

Bug report.

Having played the same mission twice, it appears that there is a game freezing bug, I believe may be being caused by The Lost attacking the Ethereal, and the Ethereal trying to reflect?

I used the Lost Lure on the Ethereal which pulled a number of them into him. Also I play with Lost having Bladestorm and poison attacks if that helps.

To be clear again, the freeze happened both times many turns into the mission and only when a Lost attempted to melee the Ethereal.

no, the AI breaks before they get a chance to do anything or even get hit by anything, from what i can tell it happens from as soon as the mission starts and multiple squads with varying abilities all get the same result

encountering a bug where the ethereals only use their first ability when alerted, but then stand completely still and do nothing for the rest of the encounter ultimately going down without a fight, been aware of this issue for awhile now but nothing i have tried works and testing it is annoying due to how rare these things can be, help would be appreciated
