KNS Uraeus DD7-8

The Uraeus is the lead ship of her class of multi-role destroyers. The Uraeus is the first ship to be commissioned by the Khertland navy since October of 2019. Due to budgetary issues, the aging fleet was left dilapidated. The long lull in building has also started to harm the shipbuilding industry losing valuable skills involved with warship production. As a result, the Uraeus class was designed as an experimental series of destroyers meant for testing new technologies and relearning skills necessary for the planned rebuilding program.

On 26 November, 2022, all three ships were refitted to the standards of the KNS Senet making them all identical as part of the completion of initial weapon trials.

The entire class returned to Ma'at naval base on January 27th and took turns dry docking for an addition of a speed governor. Due to its experimental nature, there were issues with its propulsion system's reliability. The changes reduced its speed and range slightly. Subsequent classes did not suffer from these problems however due to having a more up to date variant of the geared turbines.

16 April, 2025, the entire class received their mid-life upgrades. The Uraeus had its ballast tanks removed and its fire control directors replaced with new lightweight models. The funnel and parts of the upper works were also lightened to reduce top weight. Senet and Lunet went further, receiving a new lighter and more compact 152 mm turret. The latter two ships also had their shaft and propeller replaced. The goals of these upgrades were to try and improve overall sea keeping so they can conduct long endurance patrols and operate with the rest of the fleet. These changes allowed the ships to attain their original 45 knots top speed.
