Mubende

City-State Trait: Your Units cannot heal outside your territory.

City-State Type: Religious

History:
Mubende is home to the Nakayima Shrine, said to hold the spirit of Ndahura, a former Bacwezi king. The site, located about 4 kilometres outside of the town's central business district, is marked by the Nakayima tree. The shrine is located on top of Mubende Hill, that has a flat top where an ancient palace once stood. The shrine is visited by people paying homage to the matriarch Nakayima of the Bachwezi, believed to be semi-gods, whose dynasty ruled this region in the period prior to 1,300 AD. In Bacwezi myth, Mubende is considered the center of the Kitara Empire, as it was its first capital under Ndahura. Geographically, the hill is located in central Uganda, an area imagined as the heart of the empire. The term Mubende, which literally means "there is another", refers precisely to the displacement of the capital. While not fully agreeing on the periods of occupation of the hill, all the archaeologists who have been interested in the site have underlined its use for religious rituals dating back to a very distant time, probably prior to the very formation of the kingdoms. The Bachwezi are often associated with great earthwork sites found in western Uganda. Archaeological discoveries made at Bigo bya Mugenyi, another capital of the empire, and Ntusi located in present day Mubende District of Uganda, reveal rich deposits of an urban centre which represented a highly organized society. According to oral tradition, at the height of its power (XIV-XV centuries), the Empire of Kitara or Chwezi Empire included much of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, northern Tanzania and eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Compatible with Rise and Fall, Gathering Storm, NewFrontier. RISE AND FALL DLC IS NEEDED.
