Description
This is my Frontline Soldier class for Long War of the Chosen.
Due to LW's class overhaul, this class is quite different from the WotC class. However, many abilities remain and the intended use remains the same.

Cass overview
Frontline Soldier now uses cannons/rifles and sawed-off shotguns. It can be used at both short and medium ranges, but its ideal use is on the front line. The base ability is an improved hail of bullets that requires no cooldown and can critically strike, but requires both Action Points. So the challenge remains to get the front-line soldier in the right position.

As usual in LW, the front-line soldier has three skill lines. This allows the class to be trained in specific shooting skills, self-defense/secondary weapon training, and combat bonuses such as increased accuracy and damage. With good training, the front-line soldier is able to fight any enemy effectively.

Due to the individual mix and unique abilities, the frontline soldier can be used as an additional class in Long War of the Chosen, although of course there are certain similarities to other classes.

Most stats and values for new abilities can be adjusted in the config file.
Mod ID = 2740649627.

I've liked this class, but I can't help but feel that using a cannon with extended mags and such with guaranteed shots is too strong for a squaddie rank thing. Maybe I'm overestimating it, though, it just feels very effective.

I'm grabbing this class and your supporter and I'm going to see how they go. Thank you

after playing with it a bit more, i agree on most that, just that aim at the heart + concen/grazing fire as a combo is prolly on the OP side being able to reliably instant kill some of the stronger advent units. but that was the only issue i can think off in terms of balance, heavy fire is a fun ability, and is balanced by requiring set up, overall a fun class i am keeping in my campaigns

For this reason, the Grazing Fire and Concentration abilities are less powerful for this class as they don't match the role. Instead, they may complete the soldier by improving standard shots and overwatch. The player gets more options to either use Heavy fire or save ammo in certain situations with still lower hit chance. I don't think that this makes the class op. Only the combination with Aim for the heart might be too powerful. I've created this ability for vanilla and have not really tested it in that combination yet.

The default ability of this class is the heavy fire. So as you said, if the soldier is in a good position, he can attack with 100% hit chance, as long as he has enough ammo. In mid/late game with better weapons and attachements, you usually have enough ammo to use this ability 3+ times before reloading. In most cases, at least after 3 turns there are no enemies in sight so you have to move your soldier and are able to reload. So the role of this class is to deal 1 shot each round when facing enemies. Having the hevy fire ability available in most cases, standard shots and overwatch are much less effective.

Hey Captain Pet Rock, thanks for sharing your opinion. I thought about why I put those two abilities, Grazing Fire and Concentration, in the low tier perk list. So here is my answer:

also a note with Aim at the heart + concentration/grazing fire gives you a ridiculously high chance to instant kill humanoids.

Concentration and Grazing fire are a bit too strong together (they were removed previously from all classes that could get it i believe), you have both of them showing up on the xcom row for 10 AP. Concentration is usually on other classes row for 20-30 AP, same with grazing fire. Might wanna take a look at those and adjust AP costs/choose to only have one.

ight have one running in my current campaign, brought on a few missions, seems to be in an okay spot, the heavy fire ability is interesting, if you can get him set up he can basically kill something each turn until reload. will give you more opinions if i can get them into later game

will check it out, will let you know what i think
