Lyon Part-Dieu

Description
Welcome to Lyon Part-Dieu !

Lyon is the second biggest city in France and of course, its main station is very busy. Right in the middle of the Paris to Marseille mainline, this station is a huge hub where many destinations are meeting. From there you can catch services to Marseille and Paris, of course but you can also get a train to Luxembourg, Milano, Frankfurt, Geneva, Barcelona… In addition to those long haul trains, many regional services are trying to make their way into this already dense traffic. They run towards Dijon, Clermont-Ferrand, Chambéry, Valence, Nantes, Tours… And because, this is not enough, freight trains also need to find their way across « La Part-Dieu » heading to northern France, Italy, Germany or Spain.

A very dense traffic indeed, and as you might imagine, there’s a problem : the station is undersized.

There are only 11 platforms available for all those trains and not much room left for expansion, causing repeated delays and cancelations.
Many things have been tried to address those issues : a 12th track is being built, an overpass was created on the northern side of the station, stops duration were increased but as the traffic is always increasing, this is not enough.

This map is as realistic as possible regarding both the layout and the timetable.
You will now understand why there are so many delayed trains in Lyon.

Good luck !

Good map! It was far more difficult than I anticipated at first glance, and it took me a few tries to get a perfect score. A few trains took me some real thinking to figure out how to get them to their destination without delays, and I really enjoy having to do that kind of tinkering. Thank you!

While I ain't the biggest fan of Signal Stopping Penalties on trains, and was a bit irked that all trains were entering the map by passing their starting station (giving even less time between when they were accepted and when they would be penalized), but overall this was a nice simple map. I like how most unique track arrangements needed to be used, and how despite most trains just going from one edge of the map to the other, it didn't feel repetitive.
Nicely done.
