Class description
Cruisers (C*) are a large warship class, which often bring all disciplines into one warship. Being jack-of-all-trades, they're masters of none and will usually be outperformed by more specialized warships. However, they carry a heavier armour than most destroyers and frigates. Their large powerplants and spacious hulls provide ample provisions for large (rail assisted) guns and LAMS. The following styles are recognised: The CL class of light cruisers evolves from the frigate line and ultimately leads to the Dreadnought style Battleships. The CG class of guided missile cruisers stems from the missile destroyers, the CA class of heavy cruisers combine both AA and Anti-sub warfare into one hull and the CC class of battlecruisers are jack of all trades with a wide assortment of weapons and usually the largest hulls and most powerful engines.

The ship
The Aegis is one of the oldest ships in the fleet. She started life as a heavy gun platform, being one step up from the Supremacy class. With the ever shifting weapons technology and the experience gained by years and years of ship construction, the Aegis has been updated and rebuilt numerous times.

In its current and final iteration, the Aegis is an AA and ASW platform. It is one of the cheaper large vessels in the fleet, but don't be fooled; it can counter every submarine in game as well as posing a formidable AA platform. To this end, it has one main gun for Anti-surface and Anti-air operation, two AA-ASW guns form the main source of firepower. Three CIWS turrets complete the gun armament. Numerous torpedoes and missiles complete the weapons array.

Due to it's specialization into AA and ASW, the ship is less than ideal against heavy surface targets and airships. It relies mostly on active defences and spaced armour. While effective against HESH and HEAT, armour piercing shells will face no difficulty puncturing the hull. As such, make sure the Aegis is used like intended; as a supporting unit that is most efficient in its intended roles.
