C4V's guide on radar
By C4V Engineering
Are you confused on radar? Do you not know what the comp channels are? Confused on FOV of radar? How about sweep angels? This guide will be going over radar, new and old plus sonar. Let's get into it.

note: this does not got over lua or apn/epn missiles.

lets start
Ok so what is a radar? Well in SW it's something that detects objects. To be honest I have no idea what a radar is so here is a wiki page on it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radar. Now radar can be used in many things. From missiles to tracking objects to scanning to a whole lot of a lot of other stuff. In this guide I'll just be going over the radar. So let's get into this.

This is how I'll be organizing it.

New radar
Old radar
Sonar
New radar
Ok so after the devs said “hmm… not enough chaos” they added a new radar system and it kicked off amazingly. When I mean amazingly I mean people couldn't stop finding problems. The new radar system uses comp instead of the normal bool and num nodes. The new radars also can track up to 8 different targets as well. So let's get into them.

When you place down the new radar you’ll notice a few things. There are two nodes. One bool on/off and one num rotation angle. There are also electric and comp nodes.

The comp nodes are

(bool means on/off)

bool - Target Found - TF
num - Target Distance - TD
num - Target X - TX
num - Target Y - TY
num - Target Time - TT

1TF <channel> {what the channel does}

1TF
2TF
3TF
4TF
5TF
6TF
7TF
8TF
1TD
5TD
9TD
13TD
17TD
21TD
25TD
29TD
2TX
6TX
10TX

22TX
26TX
30TX
3TY
7TY

sorry if this is confusing

If you go into the radar with the selection tool you notice these settings.

Static
Sweep
Anti clockwise
Clockwise

Sweep angle
Sweep speed
Pitch angle

Fov x
Fov y

Now what do these mean and do? Well the sweep, static, clockwise stuff is how the radar operates. Static will just have it stay still in one spot. Sweep will have it sweep so it will go to let's say -1 - 1 back and forth aka ping pong and the clockwise and anti clockwise keep going in a circle.

Sweep angle and sweep speed are settings for clockwise/anticlockwise and sweep. Sweep speed is how fast the radar is and sweep angle is for sweep only. It basically tells the radar “hey go here and once you reach that angle then head back, once you hit this angle then head back” over and over again. It's basically how much angle the sweep mode has.

Now the pitch angle is the angle of pitch the radar has. For example if you need the scanning to be a bit lower just set the pitch angle lower. It's pretty simple.

FOV X and Y is how it sees or its field of view. If you want a missile radar then you want both of these to be the same number but if you want scanning radar then you want your Y higher then your X. These also affect its range as well, so keep that in mind.

Ok now lets go over all the channels and what they do.

TF is a bool that tells you that it found a target.
TD is how far the target is in meters. x/1000 will get you km in a function.
TX is the yaw of the target. It basically says which way the target is.
TY is the pitch of the target. It basically says how high the target is.
TT is meant to tell you how long it has been since you have seen the target but i haven't gotten it to work. this could have been changed.

Ok now lets go over the missiles radar. The missile's radar has two comp nodes. X is 1 and Y is 2. Now i have already done a guide on missiles that goes over the missiles.
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2746542377
Now something to keep in mind. The new radars track up to 8 different targets. The higher the signal strength the higher the target will be. So if you have two targets and one has a higher SS then that one will show up first. Also signal strength is based on distance and mass of a vehicle. Oh and if a target is 20km away the radar can still see it even if it's not loaded in. old radar doesn't do this but new is effected by chaff.

Old radar
Ok, so old radar is better for missiles and also has a readable signal strength so you can detect the mass of the target. You can get the old radars here https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2616326750 (thank you cptpotatoface) ok let's get into the old radars.

Now keep in mind that I haven't looked at these radars for a while so I'm just going off memory. If you see that these have good info and this is still here. That either means my memory is good or i forgot to remove this.

Ok so each radar has

bool - TF - target found
num - SS - signal strength
num - TD - target distance
num - EA - elevation angle
num - AA - azimuth angle (part of tall boy and maybe the dish)
num - FOV - field of view
num - FY - facing yaw

Now keep in mind that the flat wide radar has comp and a few other nodes but each radar basic has these nodes as well.

Now the ranges of these radars are

(still getting numbers)
Small - 5km
Tall boy - 20km
Dish - ???
Wide boy - 50km

Now all of these are basically the same as the old ones except they have a fixed range and they are simpler. Oh and they are decrepit so you need to use the link. Now some radar micros still use old radars so you're going to need these for some of those. Now by the names of these you should be able to understand what they all do and read the comp node on the wide radar.

Sonar
Sonar is an underwater radar. The small one has a range of 1km and a large one has a range of 3km. So let me go over the difference between radar and sonar. Radar is for above water and it cant work below water now sonar is different. It can't work above water but it can work below water. Now it has all the same nodes as before as a small radar with a much smaller range.
micros
Ok i'll start putting some micros so you can actually use some of these parts.

As always with these guides if i forget something or there is misinformation please let me know sense i want to make these guides as up to date as possible. Now remember, you may be 15km away but I can still see you.

Hmm, I might dig into the new ones at some point then. Thanks.

On older radar, they dont have any noise so its basically almost perfect. On newer radars they do have noise but its almost perfect. As far as I know

Not really played for a while so never got as far as radars, but do they have perfect information on a return? I've been writing up Kalman/predictive filters recently for a personal project and was wondering if there's any point in SW.

yeah and it also needs some updating as well (just like everything else) which will come out in 2 years when i got some motivation to write them up

Very confusing, but my giga brain could understand it regardless. 9/10 would recommend
