Compost Material

Description
Run out of all the NPK fertilizer you were able to scavenge?
Already composted all the leftover perishables in the area?

This mod adds organic byproduct when harvesting plants, for sustained composter use.

You can never create enough compost for a garden though, using only that same garden area.
For this mod, the math works out to where 13 seed-bearing harvests (on average) will yield enough byproduct material for 1 bag of compost (4 fertilizations).

Compatibility:
Soul Fitcher's Farming Time, More Common Seed Types, and Irrigation Pipes are all compatible. Not sure about Hydrocraft (see below).

In order for this to work in MP (have access to the right playerID), the game's farming commands are completely overwritten with identical copies (+ the lines to add organic material).
This means any mod that adds a new farming command, or edits an existing farming command, will take issue with this mod.

Note:
I chose not to add the Remove Grass / Bush / Vines commands to this mod, as these are part of a list of 40-something commands that I don't feel comfortable overriding, as opposed to farming's separate list of 9 commands (3 of which are modified here).
This all could be done without the overrides (implemented at a lower level that doesn't have access to playerID), but would only work for single player (by defaulting to playerID=0 when giving items).

Fun Fact:
The hunger value of a given perishable determines how much compost it produces in a composter bin.
Calories, carbohydrates, etc have no effect. Weight only factors into the storage limit of the bin.

I'm always sawing hundreds of logs and it occurred to me 'where's all the sawdust?'. Do you think it would be possible to have sawdust be a compost-able byproduct of plank manufacture? Thanks for the mod and the fun fact as these sorts of game mechanics fascinate me.
Hey, Mister!!! 16 Apr, 2024 @ 4:40am
can you make it so corpses can be turned into compost?

Nah man you understood the question, I just wasn't sure if you had to do something with the organic material first in order to turn it into compost other than putting it in the compost bin, so thanks for responding its a good mod

Or did I misunderstand the question? The organic material this mod gives you must be put into the composter, just as you would with any other rotting material. It will break down into compost that can then be collected with a sack.

It's been a minute for me so unless a recent update has changed things, material will rot in a compost bin until it eventually turns into dirt/fertilizer. At this point you can use an empty sack you've found to collect this composted material, similar to filling a sack with gravel, etc. This compost sack can then be applied to a vegetable patch, I believe up to 4 times.

Apologies if this is easy to understand, but how does only apply the organic matter back to plants now? I don't see an option to, am i supposed to craft it into fertiliser? or put it back in the composter?
