6601型为中国国产第一种较大型的水面舰艇。首舰205舰（“昆明”，20世纪80年代初舷号改为505舰）于1955年4月15日在沪东造船厂开工，1956年4月28日下水，1957年5月30日交付，1992年4月24日退役。

Type 6601 Frigate was based on Soviet Project 50 Frigate (NATO Codename: Riga Class) and built by PRC as the first domestically built surface combatant assisted by Soviet parts and technical package. FF-505 "Kunming" was the first of her type. Construction work began on Aprial 15th 1955 in Shanghai. She was launched on April 28th 1956 and entered service on May 30th 1957. She finally retired on Aprial 24th 1992.
