Description
The iconic concrete bus shelters of Canberra, Australia.

The concrete bus shelter was designed in 1974 by architect Clem Cummings, and installations began in 1975, continuing into the early 1990s.

An example of brutalist architecture, the precast cylindrical structures have proved to be hard wearing, but problems with their windows and a lack of lighting make them uncomfortable to use at times. While the bus shelters initially received a mixed response from the public, they are now well regarded.

Asset Info
My first asset! Who doesn't love freezing their ass off on a cold Canberra day in one of these bad bois.
I didn't model the polycarbonate windows as most of the shelters are now missing them, and I added a small light because they look good lit up at night.

Goes well with the Canberra Action Buses for full Canberra authenticity.

Recommended to use BOB, the Tree and Prop Replacer, to replace the game default bus shelters/stops on specific or all roads, adjust the offset from road, rotate etc.

UPDATE: Added 3 mural variants based on real shelters as a pack. Variants will randomly appear when plopped.

  • Variant 1 has Action bus logos on either side, as well as signal bus signage.
  • Variant 2 has a colourful mural made by Farrer Primary School students in 1993 - "We Can All Get Along With Each Other".
  • Variant 3 is one of the shelters painted with Indigenous art by CIT students and teachers from the Community Development program and Yurauna Centre in 2020. More info here[cit.edu.au].

To enable variants when replacing shelters through BOB, create a randomised list in BOB (dice icon). Add desired Canberra Bus Shelter props, adjust probability as you wish. Then replace the prop with your list (click 'show random').

When driving in southern canberra [aka Calwell or Conder] I see these all the time, and this is a really good replica! Going to use in my aussie city build.

Not at all. That is how it's supposed to work. Unless you create the bus stop as a building/park with properties to the then asset that encourages visits... It will not be used as a seat if replaced with another seat on a road for a bus. You did good kid. Other vanilla paths in-game that have benches don't let cims seat others sadly either. But now you can use BOB to replace chairs with some of those People Generator assets on the workshop and place next to bus stops. Though I'd also use Customizeit Extended to reduce visitors. Anyways thanks again for update. Look forward to testing.

No problems (: Sadly the only way I could get the seating to work is if the prop is within a building or park asset, which doesn't work with BOB.

I'll join, and also say thanks for the update. Since I already use the stations as a replacement, these variants make it even nicer now :)

Not sure if optimal to encourage active seating as a bus stop... With the Parkify mod... Park version would be sufficient. That said if prop incorporates seating mechanics from guide, will be more easily interchangeable with other props in other buildings like bus waiting areas etc. Either thanks for testing and adapting.

@BrowncoatTrekky I made a test park version and got the cims to use the seating, but BOB can't replace props with parks, so you'd have to hide the default shelter, place the park, then move it into place with move it. Even then, the cims that are actually waiting for a bus will still stand, so idk.
