Mazda RX-8 (SE3P)

RX-8（アールエックス-エイト）は、かつてマツダが製造・販売していたロータリーエンジン搭載のスポーツカーである。
2003年3月-2012年6月22日の期間、生産された。

ここでは後期型について取り扱う。

プラットフォームの型式名はマツダ・FプラットフォームをFD3Sより引き継ぐFE型だが、マツダのロータリースポーツ車の新規車種として設計・生産され、2003年に発売が開始された。
搭載されるエンジンも、型式こそ従来と変わらない13B型であるが、ポートやハウジングを含めほとんどを新設計された自然吸気型13B-MSP型『RENESIS』（RE＋GENESISの造語）を搭載した。

2008年3月10日、マイナーチェンジされた。価格帯は215ps・5MTの260万円から、新たに追加された「タイプRS」の315万円までとなった。
前後バンパーの形状変更、左右のフロントフェンダーの形状変更、ライトの形状変更。
すべてのエンジンが6ポート（6PI）となり、4ポートのエンジンは廃止され、中低速トルクの向上が図られた。カタログ記載の最高出力が250PSから235PS（ハイパワーモデル）に変更された。
ノックセンサーの数が増やされ（1個→2個）、燃料マップの変更により、レギュラーガソリンを使用してしまった時の対応範囲が拡大した。

燃焼室へのメタリングポンプによるオイル供給も、インジェクターが2本から3本に増設され制御も機械式から電磁式に変更され、細かく制御されるようになった。真冬と冷間時の始動性改善も改善された。

サスペンションジオメトリーが変更された。具体的にはリアサスペンションアームの取り付け位置が変更され、バネレートも高められた。
併せてフロント側はバルクヘッド部分にも固定部分を持つ3点支持タワーバーの採用でねじり剛性をアップすると同時にスプリング・レートを高めている。

2012年6月22日、生産終了。これにより1971年から続いてきたサバンナRX-3の血統は一時的に途絶えることになる。現在、ロータリーエンジン搭載車は生産・販売されていない。
ただし、マツダはロータリーエンジンの研究開発自体は行っているとの発表がある。

The RX-8 is a sports car equipped with a rotary engine that was once manufactured and sold by Mazda.

A minor change was made on March 10, 2008. The price range has ranged from 2.6 million yen for 215ps / 5MT to 3.15 million yen for the newly added "Type RS".
The shape of the front and rear bumpers has been changed, the shape of the left and right front fenders has been changed, and the shape of the lights has been changed.
All engines have 6 ports (6PI), the 4-port engine has been abolished, and medium- and low-speed torque has been improved. The maximum output described in the catalog has been changed from 250PS to 235PS (high power model).
The number of knock sensors has been increased (1 → 2), and the fuel map has been changed to expand the range of support when regular gasoline is used.

The oil supply to the combustion chamber by the metering pump has also been finely controlled by increasing the number of injectors from two to three and changing the control from mechanical to electromagnetic. Improved startability in midwinter and cold weather has also been improved.

Suspension geometry has changed. Specifically, the mounting position of the rear suspension arm was changed, and the spring rate was also increased.
At the same time, the front side adopts a 3-point support tower bar that also has a fixed part in the bulkhead part to increase the torsional rigidity and at the same time increase the spring rate.

Production ended on June 22, 2012. As a result, the pedigree of the Savannah RX-3, which has continued since 1971, will be temporarily cut off. Currently, vehicles equipped with a rotary engine are not produced or sold.
However, it has been announced that Mazda is conducting research and development of rotary engines.
