The Skinstealer is a sequel to the Dancer Legacy, and takes place after the Dancer victory, THINGS WITH WINGS. It will always be available after it, but can also be played from The Invisible Serapaeum.

This mod has some requirements; please grab those to make sure everything works, and enable them while playing the mod.


SEEK The Light of the Glory between the trees. The goal in Skinstealer is to collect Seven Souls from ambitious individuals, first by Stealing their Skin, then satisfying their innermost Yearnings whilst they beat in your skull.

STUDY Inklings of Identity to reveal the Yearning, so that you might satisfy it.

DREAM not of the House, but of the Wood, and the secret locations therein.
"The Living belong in the Wake and the Dead in the House. The Wood is for those who are neither."

WORK to feed your Skin, and to understand them better. Overcome their life's Complications to gain Inklings of their Identity.

INTERACT with others; such as the Key-Bearer Medusa, or that irritating Hunter who keeps getting in the way. An enigmatic opponent seeks to prevent your ascent to Namehood for reasons known only to them. Defeat them if you can, avoid them otherwise, or they will ensure you never seek the Glory alongside the Moth.


Skinstealer introduces an original Gameplay loop. You won't be founding a cult, or amassing lore, or summoning powerful Name-emenations. In Skinstealer you collect Books and Artefacts on your own, storing them in Stashes while you swap Identities and Skins to progress your goals and keep the Hunter off your tale. It plays like a cross between the base game and Exile.

It will not be easy.


Skinstealer features;
16 new tools, with 7 adapted from the base game
5 new texts, with many adapted from the base game
6 new ingredients, with 5 adapted from the base game
24 vaults with a custom exploration loop and 13 different obstacles
36 different identities, each with their own job card (though some are rather similar to each other.)

Skinstealer has 1 main victory, 3 alternate victories, 1 anti-victory, and something more.

Face one of three Hunters, each with a special strategy to prevent your ascension.
- Samson-Preservation embodies Heart and values Stasis and Persistence. He will do whatever it takes to resist the "Agent of Change", and he can only be slowed, not stopped.

- Adelaide, the Inconsistency. Adelaide is a young, well-regarded socialite. But she's just the Skin being worn. Underneath the Inconsistency lurks; a Skinstealer similar to yourself, but one who passed within centuries ago. It desires your ascension, and seeks to steal your Light.

- Clairrine, a Knight from a lost order that venerated Lantern, and who's Long opted to keep their physical forms. She spurns any who seek the Light of the False Sun, and has the means to lead you astray into falsehood and fire.

Hi Extreme sports car driver, I can't replicate the issue; I would recommend you double-check that the requirements are installed and the load order is good.

Right after the Work action spawn it generates like 100 vigours and unreasons and my game can't handle it and slows down/lags, I disabled all my other mods and everything </3 any help for a fellow mothhead :')

Ok, nevermind, after checking what all I could put in the slot for the expedition, I discovered I could put the archeologist in there in order to just leave.

Bit unfortunate that it ate a lot of my resources for nothing, but that's CultSim for you :P

I love the concept of this and have had a lot of fun playing it so far. but I did run into kinda a major issue after skinstealing the Archeologist: I'm stuck in one of their job specific Expeditions. I haven't been able to get the right Influences to defeat the current obstacle and it just keeps looping, never 'failing' the expedition.

Which means that I can't complete the excavation expedition... But I also can't give up and switch to a different identity, since that's on a different verb. I'm essentially soft-locked out of progressing any further.

Thanks bbkoffron, you're right that it isn't intended. There's been some strangeness caused by changes in how the game handles a card with another card as an aspect, and I figured I'd caught all the bugs, but this sounds like another one. I'll try to look into it soon

It's a little strange that you need a ritual and a sacrificed yearning to turn Vigour into Immortal Health, but that the other upgrade cards (Insp and Breakthrough) turn into Unreason and Whimsy whenever you use them.

The issue turned out to be that I had somehow missed the location that led to the book that led to the Way that led to the location that led to the missing text.

Hi bbkoffron, medusa's lament has one specific location, and only appears once. If you lost it somewhere, or lost the location, it may be lost for the playthrough. If that's happened, you may be soft-locked out of that ending.

I'm pretty sure I found the secretest victory, but no matter what I do I can't find the one last ingredient. I took a peek in the files and it's clear to get it I need Medusa's Lament , but I can't get any more vaults to appear aside from the repeating one. Where am I supposed to find that?
