Dust and Fidget from the indie hit Dust: an Elysian Tail have arrived in the world of Aether!



Dust is a mobile sword fighter who overwhelms opponents with good aerial movement thanks to his signature ability, the Dust Storm. Fidget is also here to provide support.

SPECIALS:

Up Special: Dust Storm. This is the core of Dust's kit. you can use it to trap enemies in a swirling vortex on the ground, or move freely in the air. Be careful though, overuse of the attack will cause you to injure yourself and put you in the parry state.


Neutral Special: Fidget's Projectile. Fidget fires a shot straight ahead that flies a short distance. It comes in three elements: Wind, Fire and Electricity. The shots are weak on their own, but use the Dust Storm on them and they will become much stronger.

Forward Special: Ash Bound. Dust does a quick dash forward to grab an opponent. If successful, the opponent will be dragged along, he'll flip over and slam them onto the ground behind him.

Forward Special in the Air: The Undoing. Just as before, Dust does a quick dash forward to grab an opponent. This time upon a success, he will plunge downwards with his opponent, not stopping until he hits the ground or the abyss.

Down Special: Rest Stop. Use this to access the menu to change Fidget's projectiles.

OTHER NOTEWORTHY MOVES

Forward Air: As well as attacking normally, Dust will summon black orbs similar to what the final boss can summon. Hitting all three parts of the attack will do heavy damage.

Back Air: A three part slash attack. The first hit hits in front of Dust. Why? Why not? It has low fixed knockback, making it a useful combo tool if you fastfall short hop. The second and third hitboxes hit behind. The third hit takes a long time to emerge, but it semi spikes.

Dtilt: Sad way to go. Not sure you can kill with this (though you are welcome to try. I'll give you a imaginary cookie) but it is a burst movement option that counts as a jab, allowing it to combo into other tilts while sliding if you hit. It also combos well even at high percents.

i remember someone making a sprite of dust and fidget being in RoA. I hoped someone would eventually make a mod of those two

I just wanted to say that Shantae, Sash Lilac, Shovel Knight, and Dust & Fidget is one of my dream crossovers. All that was missing was Dust and Fidget, and you have finally fulfilled my dream. Thank you so so much, and brilliant work. Can't wait to see what else you do in the future.

Overall I feel like this character has a lot of potential. Some smaller things like neutral air not being a multihit feel strange, but not especially out of place. I do feel like Aerial Dust Storm might be overall too fast, as well?

Forward air is blatantly too strong - it's far too easy to hit with each part, and 25% is outrageous for any single move to do, especially something with the speed forward air has.

The Undoing sometimes doesn't connect properly - they get hit with the hitbox that applies the hitstun, but not the actual command grab hitbox. This, of course, leads to them being stuck and unable to move for... I want to say it's around 7 or 8 seconds? This is most easily replicated by trying to hit them with the last couple frames of the move. I would recommend reducing the hitstun applied by that part of the move to only one or two seconds.

Hey! So, love the work you put into this, but I have a feeew complaints.

Dust Storm causes zero exhaustion if tapped. While I understand this somewhat resembles its functionality in D:AET, it unfortunately means that he needs to be killed outright, as he can always recover with no real risk. This applies to the grounded version as well, of course.

I also feel Aerial Dust Storm has too much hitstun applied to it, as a stutter-stepped Aerial Dust Storm can potentially combo to death with poor DI, or just be a significant true combo even with good DI.

Back air hits... Ahead of me? Why? I understand that for obvious reasons there's not really a move in D:AET that hits behind Dust, since you can freely turn around in that game, so you have to come up with something, but a simple half-twist and slash is a common go-to, rather than this awkward thrust of Ahrah forward, then behind, which ends up more effective on opponents in front of you. As someone who also spent a long time making the character they wanted, i give so much respect. And sweet i only got a few things. On down tilt one of the sprites of dust's foot is cut off and it behind him. I like the idea with fair but it's waay too strong, while with bair i feel it's way too weak for it being a slower move. And this may just be a personal thing but try having jab and ftilt move dust forward slightly, i find it makes a move feel better but that's subjective.

And lastly more alts if you so desire since i like having options lol. But anyways great character and i look forward to whatever you do with them and other things in the future!
